Curry up now makes it really hard to justify giving it even a 1/5. I stopped visiting the branch in San Jose over a year ago over poor service but decided to give the San Mateo outlet a chance hoping for a better experience. I went on to order take out at the store.
Food quality - 1/5: The food quality has seen a definite decline over the last couple of years. Here's my experience: Paneer Kathi Roll: Something inside the roll was stale and I had to leave it uneaten after a couple of bites. Bun Samosa: This was the only decent item that I ordered. Pav bhaji: The Pav bread was almost untoasted. Tandoori chicken sandwich: They failed to add this to my order.
Service - 0/5: The place was not busy ( I was the only person ordering takeout) and the staff seemed pretty nonchalant for a business that has been hit by covid. After waiting for about 10-15 minutes they came out with my order in a brown bag and here's the mistake I made, - I did not check my order when I received it. Them stapling the brown bag completely also meant I would need to tear apart the bag to make sure my order was correct. Once I got home and realized that an item was missing, I tried calling them multiple times, leaving a voicemail and even wrote an email but no one ever got back to me.
Another thing to note - their food was already overpriced but they also hiked the prices during COVID.
If you are craving Indian food there are a ton of better options and local business you can help support. Thank you CUN for reminding me why I...
Read moreI had been wanting to try this place for a long time, but was disappointed. I went for lunch at mid day with a friend. The first problem was that there was no waiter - the kid behind the counter was taking orders and then also serving as the waiter. Obviously this made the service on both ends terrible.
There is a giant sign behind the register that says "free chai", but we were charged $3 for the chai which I let slide. There was some fine print on the bottom half of the free chai sign but I couldn't even read it - totally tacky.
I went to pour myself some chai. The dispenser ran out after I mostly filled one cup. The kid behind the counter discussed with the cook - no offer to make more chai despite it being the middle of the day, but offered to let us take a different drink. I sent my friend inside to get a beverage and he chose a bottle of water. He sat down again and this is the point that the waiter came by with a giant bottle of water and glasses for the table. He also never delivered plates, utensils, or napkins, which I had to go get. Serves me right for tipping 20% up front.
We had samosas, chicken tacos, and a friend chicken sandwich. Samosas were fine. Didn't like the tacos, too wet and had big chunks of chicken, not sliced - not good for tacos at all. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious and is why I gave 2 stars. I may return to get another one because it was so good, but I am definitely hesitant. I would never eat in again,...
Read moreDidn't answer the phone when I attempted to place a to-go order several times. It was a Friday night and upon arrival it hadn't gotten busy quite yet. Several employees standing around while cashier helped the only person placing an order so I'm not sure why they didn't answer the phone. The only place that was busy was the bar. The people in front of me took forever and it appeared that the cashier was training somebody and I was starting to get irritated because it was taking so long. After placing the order I had to wait approximately 10 minutes. I ordered the tikka masala chicken burrito which was surprisingly spicy. It cooled off after I got home and ate it later it was much less spicy. There wasn't very much chicken in it at all. And since I ordered that along with a glass bottle of Sprite and it came to $15 I would think there'd be a little bit more chicken in there. The place itself was beautiful, I love the decorations and there's a bar hidden in the back and that's where most of the people were. But as I mentioned, there were employees just standing around and it seemed like they could have been doing something.. like answering the phone for to-go orders. Atmosphere was good, food was less than adequate, price was too high. Not sure why this is such a popular place, although the...
