I really wanted to love Tutu Lounge. The first time I came here two weeks ago, it was a slower Saturday morning and everything was lovely. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had the butterfly pea lemonade and the waffle and egg combo, both of which were great. My mom ordered the Benedict and enjoyed it just as much. We left feeling like we had found a new neighborhood favorite and even added it to our regular rotation.
Unfortunately, my second visit this morning was a completely different experience. From the moment we walked in, something felt off. There seemed to be only three people working, and all of them came across as rushed and honestly, a bit rude. We waited a long time just to place our order, and then waited nearly 40 minutes for the food to arrive. Our drinks hadn’t even come out yet. We were later told that the drink order “didn’t print for the barista,” which felt more like an excuse than an explanation considering the people who sat next to us arrived after us and received their food and drinks before we did.
When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. I ordered the Tutu French toast, which was a strange mix of savory and sweet. The flavors didn’t blend well and it was hard to finish. One of the people I was with got a side of sourdough toast with avocado smeared on it, which was confusing since there was no avocado in her actual order. It made us wonder if it had been pulled from someone else’s plate.
When we were ready to leave, we asked for the bill and no one came back for another 15 minutes. A server even knocked my purse off the back of my chair and barely acknowledged it. We eventually had to go up to the front counter just to pay and leave.
I wish my second visit had been as good as the first, but the inconsistency in service and food quality was too frustrating to ignore. I won’t...
Read moreThis place was absolutely incredible. I was looking for a delicious breakfast place anywhere in Marin that didn't just serve basic diner food, and preferably somewhere we hadn't been before. I found TuTu after quite a while scrolling and knew right away that that was the place to try, and boy am I glad we did.
Firstly, I absolutely love that they have a huge focus on breakfast. I'm a big breakfast person and being able to walk in at noon and be able to order anything on the menu (which was 80% breakfast items) was a dream. I'm they are now beginning to serve dinner, and they did have plenty of lunch options if breakfast isn't your thing.
The menu selection was amazing - they had 6 or 8 different kinds of eggs benedict (all of which sounded delicious), as well as a few other twists on breakfast classics that all sounded interesting. We ended up getting the croffle (croissant waffle) with berries and the parmesan french toast. The croffle was divine with plenty of fruit, and my partner was pleasantly surprised by the parmesan french toast, which was served with bacon bits and a lovely bechemel sauce.
Not only the food, but the drinks were absolutely top-notch. We got the mocha (which was made with dark chocolate; YUM) and the ube (taro) latte. I've only ever had ube in a cold beverage so was excited to try it hot and I could not get over how delicious it was. If it weren't for the fact I drink slowly, I would have ordered a second, and then probably a third.
The staff was attentive, and friendly, the place had lovely decoration and a welcoming ambiance, and the food presentation easily matched its taste.
I'm not sure how long TuTu has been open but I'm glad I found it, as it instantly became a new favorite. Make a stop here whenever you're nearby - you...
Read moreTutu lounge replaced Bogie’s on 4th St., San Rafael. We went there and tried 2 things we couldn’t get it somewhere else in Marin. Shrimp tomyum (hot and sour Thai soup) scramble (or you can order omelette) and pancakes with Thai tea sauce. Both are yummy and unique. The tomyum scramble was a great idea, the tangy taste of tomyum went well with scrambled eggs, and the big shrimps on top made it very special as well. The pancakes were good and went well with the Thai tea sauce. The portion is also generous. They have a couple tables on the sidewalk and plenty of tables inside. The owner was very friendly. I saw the sign that they will serve dinner, starting on May 30th. This restaurant is a good addition to downtown San Rafael and deserves a visit from you.
01/04/25 I went to have dinner there with my family and everything we ordered was very delicious. We loved the Brussel Sprout Salad (Crispy brussel sprout with roasted peanut, cherry tomatoes in som tum dressing), Tom Yum Prawn Linguine, Wagyu Beef Burger, Banana Leaf Salmon, and Ribeye Nam Tok (Medium grilled ribeye steak slathered in larb sauce with herbs & toasted rice powder). The price is a bit high but for the portion, the fresh ingredients and great flavor,...
