Went to the Brick Oven Bistro in Sanducky after a day at Cedar Point on 6/8/19. My girlfriend and I are looking for the best pizza in Ohio this summer. We heard some good things about this place so we decided to check it out. We ordered the Italian Stallion. It had sausage, pepperoni or salami, and ham I think. We dropped the hot peppers and added fresh mushrooms and green olives to it. This is a wood fired pizza and it came out fresh and hot. It is rectangular in shape and cut in squares. It is also thin crust but not like a cracker. However, it has good crisp and no real flop. Very good, basic crust, imo. It had plenty of hot, melted cheese. Very cheesy. The sauce was neither spicy nor too sweet. My girlfriend wished it had more sweetness. Overall, it was very good but not as good as Mikey's Late Night Slice in Columbus. I would say it is on par with (216) Pizza in Cleveland. A very good 7.8 out of 10. Will definitely go back next time we are in Sandusky.
The service was very good. Waitress was very polite and attentive. Very nice place to go for pizza. A lot better and cheaper than any of the not-so-warm and overpriced food served at Cedar Point.
I also had the Ciderboys Raspberry Smash Hard Cider. It was excellent! Very tasty and refreshing. If I was reviewing that, I would give it a 9.5 out...
Read moreGreat little local brick oven pizza place. Stopped in after a trip to Cedar Point. Seems to be a popular place with the locals, which is a good sign. Pizzas are thin crust, brick oven style, with a small variety of sauce options. There is a selection of specialty pizzas, and an option to create your own. The Buffalo Chicken pizza was good, and the custom ordered prosciutto and chicken with garlic sauce pizza was delicious. More traditional toppings, such as pepperoni, mushrooms, etc. are also available. The menu also features sandwiches, soups, a children's menu, and some dessert. The salads we ordered were fresh and the sandwich was served on cibata and was also very good.
The place is a little small. We were lucky as there was one table open. I could see a potential issue with a wait, especially at peak times. There is a bar and some seating there, but the dining area will fill quickly on a busy night. Unfortunately, they do not accept call ahead seating or reservations.
The service was excellent. The wait staff was very friendly, and attentive. Food arrived quickly, was hot and fresh, and prepared correctly. Management was also friendly, checking on tables, and seemed genuinely interested in each guest's experience.
Overall a good experience, would recommend, and would return on a future trip...
Read moreNice place, a take on pizza that is a nice artesianal switch from your standard fare. The staff was very friendly and efficient, although a better knowledge of the craft beers that were on tap would have been helpful. A very nice bottle selection for this size place.
And they did bring us the wrong pizza at first, but quickly realized their mistake before we could even say anything, and just let us keep the first one. So it's good that nobody had to get one that was on someone else's table.
The quality and freshness of the ingredients is their forte; the caramelized onions we're just done, not to the point of being gooey or crunchy. The fresh mozzarella was a very nice addition to the house blend. And the garlic version of it on the bruschetta with only some Basil strips showcased it's flavor, it didn't need anything else to distract from it.
I think a little more of the additional toppings, especially the pepperoni and ham in this case, would have been better. Sometimes they were absent on more than one slice. I understand that the nice unique and handcrafted crust and the sauce are what makes the pizzas special, but just a bit more would seem to be appropriate.
We enjoyed our visit, and getting a free pie to take...
