I've always heard good things about J. Christopher's, though I had never eaten at one until recently. Maybe I just picked a lesser quality location, but I was extremely underwhelmed.
The staff was nice, and I was greeted quickly enough. The building is attached to the other buildings in that shopping center, so it looked much like the other neighboring businesses from the outside. The inside felt like we had stepped into a restaurant version of some little old lady's house who was more concerned with feeding the neighborhood than in cleaning or updating her old, tired decor. In all fairness though, I didn't really have a problem with that. I've eaten many a wonderful meal in little old ladies' houses in the past.
I ordered food to go, as I was in a hurry. My girlfriend and I decided to get breakfast sandwiches so we could eat them on the road. I ordered an egg and cheese on an English muffin, and my girlfriend got the see thing with turkey sausage.
We were told that the food would take about 5 to 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it took closer to 15 minutes (which wouldn't have normally been an issue, but as previously stated, we we're in a hurry and only ordered food anyway because we were told it would be out quickly). When we did receive our food, we didn't try it until we were back in the car.
The food itself was pretty bad. I have no idea why they thought putting scrambled eggs on a to go breakfast sandwich was a good idea, first of all. Scrambled eggs, by their very nature, don't stick together and aren't good for eating on the go. And beyond that, there was no seasoning at all on any of the food (unless you count the seasoning IN the sausage). This includes the absence of salt. My breakfast sandwich was nearly tasteless. My girlfriend's was only better because of the sausage.
Needless to say, this is super disappointing for a place that is known for their breakfast food. And frankly, I'd be disappointed even if they weren't. As Gordon Ramsay says, why would you choose to pay to eat in a restaurant when you can cook better food at home? And it would have taken minimal effort to make better food than that which I got from J Christopher's.
Follow up:
I've changed the review from a two star review to a one star review. Not only was the experience very sub par, but I did as the store owner requested (see their response under this review) and contacted their 'operating partner' via email. I did so on September 7th. It's now October 3rd and I still haven't heard back.
Needless to say, I won't be back. If the people in charge don't care enough to even respond to a dissatisfied customer's email, why should I care enough to give the...
Read moreOne of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had that ultimately led to a trip to the childrens emergency room.
Sat down and the waiter didnt take our drink order for over 10 minutes. Drinks come and forgot one (which never came til we flagged down another server 15 minutes later.)
Took our food order and in the middle of ordering he pivoted to another table to speak with them.
Food finally comes and its all wrong. No cheese in eggs, toast instead of pancakes, etc.
Food comes back luke warm. Waiter never returns to ask how it is. We're finally able to get a bill that wasnt split between parties. All of the items on the bill were itemized. For example we ordered The American Breakfast and instead saying
$12.99 (or whatever) American Breakfast it was listed: $1.99 eggs $1.99 bacon $3.99 pancakes
While attempting to decipher the bill that was longer than a cvs receipt, my 4 year old slid out of his chair and punctured the back his head on the chair which led to bleeding and crying. I rush out of there to comfort him and decide to take him to the ER due it being a head injury with blood.
If we had an attentive server, we would've been out there 20 minutes earlier without a restless child and none of this would've happened.
$200 ER visit copayment later the doctor said no concussion symptoms thank god and it was just a...
Read moreIt had been “a minute” since I visited this J. Christopher’s but today, on a whim, felt like stopping in for their classic eggs benedict with a side of crispy home fries. Now here I sit, twenty glorious minutes later, eying an empty plate that previously held the most expertly poached eggs blanketed in a velvet and generously proportioned hollandaise, and snuggled alongside, perfectly seasoned and crisped home fries. I mean- I know I it been a while (as in over a year) since I’d had eggs benedict, but this was almost surreal in the expert quality of every aspect of the dish. And to top it off, when I walked in, I received a warm welcome and continued wonderful service from one of the servers, Isadora (I originally hadn’t gotten her name, but I tipped her generously to make up for that faux pax). The Manager, Ebie also made a point to stop by and asked in a friendly and unobtrusive manner how everything was. In a world that increasingly is fraught with tension and chaos and people not caring about much, the high level of customer care was also a welcome 🤗 delight that just enhanced my breakfast. “Everything is Perfection,” I replied happily, with a twinge of sadness examining my now empty plate, practically licked clean. Highly...
