I visited Rreal Tacos - Sandy Springs for the first time on a Saturday night around 7:15 PM with a group of five. The location has free parking and is located in a Kroger plaza. We attempted to make a reservation online days in advance, but it seemed like the location did not take them for Saturdays at all. We tried to call to ask, but the business has some sort of automated answering service, making it difficult to ask specific questions.
Despite it being busy, we were lucky enough to get a table within minutes of checking in with the hostess. The inside was small, tables were very close together and the room was loud. You could hear the bustle of the bar, conversations and the latin music playing. It was a bit hard to hear the people at our table while chatting. We were seated in the back of the inside room at a table near the patio area, with the restroom on the right and a view of the bar & kitchen window not too far away. I liked being able to see the staff make pitchers, flights and prepare special entrees.
There were QR codes on the table for the menu and they used technology on the table to document the full table's order. The menu was easy to understand and most of the tacos were a la carte and priced between $4-6 each depending on protein.
Our server was Diego. He was friendly and serving several tables in the section. There were a few times during our dining experience that he forgot to put things in or deliver a request. For example, I ordered the chips and salsa appetizer to share while waiting for two of our guests to arrive. It arrived quickly, but we ran out of chips. When the full party was seated, Diego took drink orders and I put in a request for extra chips. The drink orders came, but the chips did not. Diego came back to take food orders and I asked for the side of chips again, so we could have them before the entrees came out. The chips did not come out until after our entrees came. 4 of 5 entrees came out first and at that point, I told Diego to cancel the chips because they would not be needed. They came out late and I was still charged for it. Because I was charged for it, I asked for a bag for them, so I could take them home later. I had to remind Diego at least 3 times to bring the bag out. He did apologize and bring it out on the last time, and I do understand that it was a lot going on. It also took a while for our birthday girl to get her second drink order.
The chips and salsa were great & I do recommend it! The chips were thick and fresh and did not break when scooping and the salsa was fresh and packed with flavor. For my entree, I ordered the chicken burrito bowl and one pastor taco. The chicken burrito bowl was flavorful and delicious and I added the salsa verde sauce as well. The corn tortilla and pastor pork was dry but seasoned well. I also liked the bite sized onion and cilantro & grilled pineapple. It worked well with the salsa verde that was provided, but I could skip that taco next time. My friends ordered birria quesadilla, grilled chicken tacos, barbacoa tacos, and Spanish rice. Everyone enjoyed their food. Some of us had enough to take food home and requested to go boxes for our food and to go orders.
The highlight of the night was when Diego brought out a birthday dessert for our birthday girl! It really made her smile. Overall, the food was great and reason for my 4 star review. Service needs improvement, but it helps to have a friendly server and a little grace. There was a kitchen mix up with to go orders and when we checked out. Three of five of us put in food orders to go. The kitchen put them all in one plastic bag tied up and stapled & this caused confusion as we had to separate them and request separate bags. I felt like this could have been avoided if Diego would have let the kitchen know they were separate orders. We had four checks and were able to split the bill as needed with cash and credit cards and I appreciated that, although there were a few errors. I would like to come back when it is...
Read moreI was so excited to finally be able to try Rreal Tacos. Let me explain, I am a lover of Tacos and all things Taco-like, coupled with the fact that I have seen soooooooo many reviews on how good the food is at Rreal Tacos, I had to go.
After a day of errands I decided to stop by the Sandy Springs location. The restaurant is nestled in the corner and has a very cute setup with offerings of indoor and outdoor seating. Upon walking in, the decor and vibe is very inviting and trendy. The design of black and white really allows for the pops of color to stand out.
As we were seated immediately, I was able to explore the menu. Similar to the location, the menu is curated and very specific. There isn’t a huge variety of options, however, there’s enough to choose from that everyone will be happy.
When my server (Diego) arrived at the table he was very pleasant and welcomed us to Rreal Tacos. As there aren’t any complimentary tortillas and salsa available I placed an order as an appetizer.
The salsa was fresh and not overly chunky. There was a kick of spice that was a perfect pairing for the earthy flavor of the salsa vegetables. The tortilla chips were warm, perfectly salted, and golden goodness. LoL! This was a great welcome into the Rreal quality of food.
Though I was originally in the mood for tacos, the menu changed my mind. I was today years old when I found out that a Quesabirria was a thing. Not only is it a thing, but the photos completely shifted my taste buds and I had to have one.
I ordered: Side - Spanish Rice; Fluffy. Perfectly done. Lightly seasoned. This would go great as part of a dish, however, as a stand alone it was okay.
Quesabirria: Birria Barbacoa Quesadilla with cilantro, onions and consomé; This was absolutely amazing. The meat was tender and in abundance. You could taste the care that was put into the creation of the meal. The flavoring put me in the mindset of a savory pot roast. Dipping the quesadilla into the consomé really puts it over the top. It was like a perfectly seasoned and simmered beef broth. Oh My Gosh!!! I’m talking out of this world savory goodness with an abundance of flavor. I’m in love.
Also, as a side note, if you drizzle some of the consomé on the side of rice it turns it into a totally new experience! The consomé is the magic touch for anything. LoL!
Overall, I am super pleased with my Rreal Tacos experience. Next time I plan to try the tacos, however, I can’t be held liable if the Birria Barbacoa Quesadilla with cilantro, onions and consomé starts calling my...
Read moreCame here about an hour before closing and received quality service, good food, and a solid time to debrief from the day.
It was good to be able to compare inside and outside seating before making a decision. While you can still hear the music outside on the balcony, it’s dimly lit and you definitely feel the fullness of the outside temperature and humidity. You don’t get the full ambiance as inside, but it’s a bit more intimate in a way. Inside is very well balanced with a wall of alcohol on one side and beautiful tile overlaid with artwork and photos of the staff. The music was a solid blend of reggaeton, other Latin diasporic sounds, hip hop, and pop edm.
Jocelyn was very attentive and made sure I had what I needed throughout the night. She made sure I was checked in on every 5-10 minutes, refilled my water and was helpful in answering some of my questions and responding to my comments. 5 stars
The mild silky queso that comes with very lightly salted chips and order of moderately salted/flavored refried beans is a meal of its own. Combined together, the flavors, atop a chip, are definitely amplified. The whiskey sour was about 50% of the glass with the other 50% being ice (made with crown, freshly squeezed limes, and agave) was fairly decent. Regarding the salsas, to me they don’t really stand alone with chips, maybe because they aren’t as conglomerated, meaning lots of different flavors and textures, but they’re not bad. To my taste buds, the heat intensity from least to greatest goes Roja, Verde, y Habanero. The bottles say Roja is hotter than Verde though.
They check the restrooms hourly and they keep a refreshing scented candle going, and away from fire hazards. They had both tvs set to an nba game. I’m not sure if the tvs are synchronized. The rows between the high bar, high top tables, and bench seating are kinda small. It’s kinda a frogger game waiting behind someone eating while someone else passes down the row. I did get bumped a few times, but it’s no big deal. I think the atmosphere is so vibey and familial that very few people probably really mind the spacing.
All in all, I’m glad I got to experience this restaurant. I think you can enjoy it with a group or by yourself (I think anywhere from 1-10, you just may have to push some tables together). I’m thankful for the 4 staff members I got to interact with from greeters and house staff to waitress and server, and it was nice seeing that every staff member did a little bit of everything to keep the place nice on a timely...
