Disappointed is the only word I have. We haven't been to Crazy Ottos since before the pandemic and all we have seen with a number of restaurants is an increase in cost and a decrease in service and sometimes food quality. This was no different. We started off ok with the intro and getting drinks. We ordered the 8oz ribeye medium rare and eggs. What we got was a disgrace to a ribeye cut. The meat was flat like a country fried steak and it was shoe leather, cooked well done. We expected the ribeye cut to have been significantly thicker and cooked correctly. Have some respect and pride in that kitchen! It doesn't matter what kind of restaurant it is, a cook or chef should always take pride in the food they serve. What was wild was we made the comment about the steak being overcooked and the servers disappeared. We sat waiting for about 7 minutes before someone showed up for us to see how we were, and we could get the steaks redone. The remade steak was also flat and probably the fattiest pieces they could find (much worse than before), it was just embarrassing. It was cooked to medium this time, and the eggs were the same as before and warmed up, with my mother in law's eggs being mutilated this time, but we were so hungry at this point, it just wasn't worth it to have them try again. The pancakes are always pretty good, even though my wife's wasn't served with syrup. The Belgian waffle was anything but what you would expect to pay 16.50 for. An incredibly small thin square waffle is hardly a correct portion size to claim Belgian. It definitely felt like we were being ignored for most of the meal and when we were done, we were left in restaurant jail waiting to pay. It was a very disappointing experience. This will be our last time back. Want some bang for your buck? Take a few extra minutes drive down Sierra Highway and go to the...
Read moreI am working through a list of all diners in LA County so drove up to Crazy Otto’s from West LA this past weekend and overall had a good experience. It’s located far north in Santa Clarita and is 1 of 3 diners in the area that I have on my list. I know that they are known for giant portion sizes and can confirm this is definitely true. Service was very friendly and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. It’s also quite large on the inside so they have a lot of seating options but no outdoor seating. It’s inside a small shopping center so there is a giant free parking lot right out front so parking was very easy.
As mentioned the portion sizes here are gigantic! It’s a little bit more expensive because of that so just know that you’re going to pay a little more but also get a ton of food. They are known for their large omelettes so I knew I had to try one. I ordered the most popular omelette, which is the Crazy Otto’s Burgermeat and added avocado to it. However when my food came out it was an omelette but filled with just guacamole. No cheese, protein, or anything else. I told my waitress and she said the kitchen made a mistake so they remade it for me and the second, real, version was absolutely delicious. The green chilies inside really added to the flavor and I would happily order it again. The giant omelette with the giant side of hashbrowns was too much for me to finish so this is the sort of place that you will never leave hungry. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area and if I am ever back up in Santa Clarita, I will certainly give this place...
Read moreIt was our first time visit on a Saturday morning. We've waited 30 minutes and finally had to flag someone down for attention. No one came to take our orders. Again, after placing our order, the food took quite a long time to come out.
Once the food came out, my husband ordered the country fried steak and eggs. It was dry ground beef. The hash brown was flavorless and dry.
I ordered 2 eggs, ham and 3 pancakes. The ham was thick and big. It was dry and hard. Of course, the utensils were the cheap, small and flimsy. The pancakes were humongous. It was OK.
Overall, it was not the greatest experience and we will not visit again. It's ashame because the design was the old fashion diner look and cute. However, the breakfast, I thought, how could they mess up breakfast. However, I guess it can be messed up.
We all agreed that Dennys would have been a better choice. We try new places in our area and try to support local restaurants whenever possible but it reminded me of one of the Gordon Ramseys "Kitchen Nightmare" episodes. If the service improves and the food is better prepared and speeds up, it could be much better....
