I really wish I could... but I can't.
We went to this Outback on a Sunday afternoon, arriving at 4pm with a party of four (2 adults and 2 kids).
The timing was great, some tables occupied but not (even closely) packed to a point where we would be worried of quality of service, timing and attention.
Our server was incredibly nice and affable. With everything that went wrong, she maintained a professional level of diligence and positivity that merits recognition. A review of just her would have netted a much higher rating. But this is about food - and let's be honest, it's about steaks and the bloomin' onion - at a nationally franchised steakhouse, right?
We ordered: Kids meals (decent, nothing positive nor negative to write home about) Bloomin' Onion (a favorite of ours) A filet mignon - 6 oz - medium rare, with asparagus and loaded brussel sprouts An Aussie prime rib - 16 oz - medium rare, with asparagus and loaded mashed potatoes.
So kids meals aside, here is what you should know before you visit:
Bloomin' Onion - came out a dark brown. It was dry, overfried and of the joy and impatience this should have prompted within us, it was coagulated to the point of us sawing through individual bites with a steak knife. We did see other tables where the Bloomin' Onion looked more appealing, but I can only write about the strangely throat-scratching cactus before us.
Steaks - both the filet and the prime rib came out OVERDONE TO THE POINT OF PARCHEDNESS. By this, I mean that I saw the gray prime rib meat, asked the server "are you sure this is medium rare?" and to his response of "oh yeah, that's the medium rare", I cut into it and there was only gray - and no juices - and by "cut", I mean "saw". It was really bad.
My wife has worked as a server, underappreciated for years, and so we have an allergic reaction to sending food back.but after she cut into her filet (also gray/brown and colorless), she insisted politely that our mains go back.
To add insult to injury, the asparagus was also soft/wilted with no bite (pretty much mush) and the loaded brussel sprouts were soggy. I was satisfied with my loaded mashed potatoes.
We were really hopeful the re-fired steaks would be up to par. They were not. I have no idea what is going on at this restaurant, but the second round of steaks were also dry and overcooked (to the apologetic looks of the server) and we were so disappointed that we just asked them to pack up the steaks to go.
This Outback turned out to be $150 that we fed to our dogs over the next few days. Do no it go - it's so...
Read moreVery disappointed with the experience here and will not be returning. Took my girlfriend here for a long overdue date night and upon entering the restaurant we weren’t even greeted by the host. He stood there there for a second, glanced up at us with an annoyed scowl on his face and asks “for two?”. He then guides us to our table and slaps the menus on the table and quickly leaves. I will say that our server Julie was fantastic. She was friendly and very attentive. My girlfriend ordered the filet mignon with mash potatoes and broccoli and I ordered the ribeye with the same sides. I ordered my steak medium rare and she explained that she wanted her somewhere between medium and medium and medium rare because the last time we went to that location she ordered medium rare and it was nearly raw. Anyway. We start off with the blooming onion which was delicious but upon receiving our steaks. Her steak was completely overcooked and dried out. It looked about as appetizing as a rubber Sandel and it wasn’t even the cut she asked for and the staff tried to pass it off as a filet Mignon. My steak wasn’t cooked to medium rare and it was more like medium well. We asked if they could take her food back and after waiting about 15 minutes they bring the food out again and it’s still overcooked. They take it back again but by this point my girlfriend doesn’t even want the food anymore since we’ve already been there for over an hour. My girlfriend left to sit in the car and I was just waiting to pay the bill. The manager comped us the blooming onion and her food and that’s great but the whole experience was just really frustrating because we already don’t get to have a lot of time together just the two of us and we chose to eat here because that’s what she really wanted. After two bad experiences at this Outback location in a row, I can confidently say I will not be returning and I will be weary of going to other locations...
Read moreI was looking forward to my birthday dinner at Outback in Stevenson Ranch as my celebration there last year was so delicious and memorable. I think that the management has changed since last year because this meal fell short in almost every aspect. The reception was uncomfortable as the hostess did not greet us as usual because she was training another hostess. We were brought to a table and when we requested a booth we were left standing there while she walked away from us without a word finally motioning us to go to the other side of the restaurant for a booth. I always get the same meal on my birthday. A lemon drop martini (which is not on the menu), and a bone in ribeye with a sweet potato and a salad. The salad was small, the sweet potato was tiny and the ribeye was thin and overcooked. Not to mention that the drink was under poured. I would not have written a bad review if I had not had previous years of this same meal to compare it to. Every year previously I have walked away satisfied and wanting to go back, but this year is strikingly different. The only nice thing was the server who admitted that there had been a change and that he noticed all of the things that I pointed out and thought the same himself. My husband and I also hate the kiosk at the table. It does not enhance the experience at all, it diminishes it and frustrates us. Outback, your customers want to TALK to a pleasant person, not interact with a computer! I can see that many of the recent reviews reflect the same things that I have and hope that the management reads these and takes notice. I will be looking for another place to have a ribeye...
