Cat and Cloud Review (Abbott Square Market) Customer service 3/5 Employees we're energetic, enthusiastic and seemed knowledgeable about their product. However, I brought to the attention of the barista, that the shot she pulled for me was under extracted and tasted sour and salty. Instead of re pulling my shot I received a bit of a dirty look and an "okay" from the barista. I would have maybe let this slide if there was a line out the door but there were no other customs untill 2 minutes after I sat down. (I know this is not how this blend is supposed to taste. I have had this espresso blend at their main location, as well as, extracted it many times at home and receiving amazing results).

SPEED 5/5 Drinks we're out in less than 3 minutes. Work flow is locked in.

Seating 5/5 This coffee shop shares space with several other food shops, so indoor seating can be limited at times when busy. However, the outdoor seating is vast and elegant.

Quality 3.8/ 5 Most places will give you a small cup of sparkling water with your espresso if you are paying $3 to $4 for a shot. I did not receive any.

Espresso blend (the Answer) Sharp, bold, sour, salty under extracted. I let the barista know about it but she did not pull another shot, so I had no other choice but to critique the espresso as is.

Single Origin Guatemala (The truth) Bright, flavorful, medium to light body, perfectly extracted, berry citrus smells and tastes, smooth surgery finish.

Creamy Beige Signature cat and cloud milkshake with espresso. Well proportioned and balanced. Definitely a great treat for the hot weather if you have a sweet tooth.

Presentation 5/5 The custom ceramic espresso cups and saucers are an amazing unique touch. Latte art is on point. The baristas are definitely skilled.

OVER ALL 4.3/5 A bit underwhelmed comparing it to the original location in terms of the customer service. However, it is a great location, elegant, friendly, and located right in the heart of Downtown Santa Cruz. Unfortunately I am not from the area so I had to give my review based on this single experience.This is a fairly new location, obviously with some room for improvement. All in all, I would recommend Cat and Cloud to any coffee enthusiast or anyone in general who is looking to enjoy a great cup of coffee in downtown Santa Cruz.

Headed up by a couple of former champion baristas and creative talents at Verve, Cat & Cloud is continuing to forge the specialty coffee culture here in Santa Cruz. A passion for all things coffee runs strong with this crew and the level of customer service is like no other. Their newest cafe has them collaborating with the always delicious local bakers Companion Bakeshop, located in Abbott Square downtown. A morning at the Abbott enjoying a warm cortado and a delectable fresh baked galette…. is a day off to a great start!

*Update - the crew is as awesome as ever....but PLEASE, bring back the FRITTATA!!! My belly thanks you in advance! :)

Ride the Redwoods | Santa Cruz Mountain...

I've two and half delicious cups of coffee here. Let me explain the half cup. I had ordered a cup of drip, and they ran out after the cup was 1/2 way full so they let me have it and another filtered coffee of my choosing for no extra charge. So I walked out with a delicious Ethiopian drip and a hand poured Guatemalan that was probably the sweetest cup of coffee I've ever had. I've also recently had their Kenyan Kiniyaga which was also incredibly tasty - super juicy and sweet.

If you love coffee and for some reason haven't been to Cat & Cloud, smack yourself upside the head and get some!
