I stopped in after reading a few reviews of where to get coffee in SF, and I almost turned away after entering and noticing the very second-wave vibe and the smell of burnt, over-roasted beans (the âStarbucks smellâ). The drink prices were favorable and I needed caffeine, so I decided to stick it out.
The barista was a little inattentive (didn't even acknowledge me standing there for a good full minute, even though she wasn't apparently helping anyone else), and I was a bit turned off to find that the prices were only for a single shot (one shot in a 12-oz latte is not even close to the proper ratio), so it ended up being over $4 by the time I added the necessary second shot.
The resulting drink was actually not bitter and quite drinkable and even featured some modest latte art, though I could still detect a subtle astringent taste of over-roasted beans. Not quite "awesome third-wave" quality but definitely good...

As I entered in, I could smell the burned beans from the door. The espresso was bitter and acidic while over roasted, probably one of the worst I've had in a while. Too bad, they do have a roaster on site, but the owners should realize that past decades most shops shifter to medium - medium light roast. It's how coffee beans should be roasted.
*I know you have lighter roasted beans in the store, but those are not in your grinder, so you are not giving us a choice to use those in our espresso drinks! I asked! *
I also got a cold "fresh croissant" that tasted like un baked dough. The person at the counter didn't want to be there, I made some suggestions, and got a cold "I don't care" look. Too bad I wasted over $15 on 2 bad coffees and a...

However, I thought today I would try it again and to my dismay it was the same as far as service goes. The reason for the 0 stars is now the coffee sucks too. It used to be the service was horrible but the coffee good but now both are horrible. I will never be back.
UPDATE: FROM 4 STARS TO 2 Service absolutely sucks now. You either wait in the Drive-Thru forever even if you are the only person in line or if you go into the store the staff completely ignores you until they serve you and then they forget you ever existed and ignore the next customer. Time to go somewhere else.
The coffee is amazing absolutely no doubt. The 4-stars is based on atmosphere. I feel like they could do so much more with outdoor space to make it user-friendly and the service could be a...
