A couple weeks ago I was visiting Santa Fe for a few days while on a long road trip. I asked my local friend where I should go for some food before moving on and she suggested El Chile Toreado. I believe her follow up words were "it's unfair how good it is". That obviously piqued my interest and made me need to find out for myself. I'm a HUGE burrito fan and somewhat of a burrito snob so I had to see if it could back up such a claim.
I then headed over there to snag a burrito before they closed for the day. I tried to order a carnitas burrito but they were out so I went with the carne asada with hatch peppers. NBD. I paid and eagerly waited for my burrito. It only took a few mins before I had it in-hand and on my way.
I went back to my van and my plan was to take a few quick bites before starting my drive... but... that all went out the door after my first bite! I'm pretty sure I vocally blurted out some sort of instant excitement/happy expletive at what I was experiencing. Unreal!!! I then continued to crush that thing... savoring every bite.
Half-way through I realized that they were closing down for the day so I headed back over there just so I could tell them how they made the best burrito I have ever had!
I then blissfully finished off that burrito and thought about planning my next road-trip out here (from Cali) just so I can eat...
Read moreThe bacon breakfast burrito I have loved for years has changed for the better, firmly establishing itself as my favorite in NM!
What I loved that is still there: A breakfast burrito packed to the gills with flavor and filling. A restaurant unafraid to bring the heat. Spice: the salsa, sautéed jalapeños, or something. Whatever it is, I love it! The temp: it’s always piping hot! The green salsa that is refreshing, hot, and a touch creamy all at the same time.
What’s new: A chewy, lightly flame (or grill?) kissed tortilla. I used to say I wished that I could take the Chile Toreado burrito and wrap it in the Better Day tortilla. No longer! Credit card accepted without minimums or fees.
I’m sad they’re not open on Sunday when I most often crave a burrito, but hey, they deserve...
Read moreThis review is only about their breakfast burritos. The dont put the hatch green chile or the cheese (or very very little that you can't taste it). I returned mine even though I had already been back at the hotel checking out and had them redo it. The problem is they took the burrito to "inspect" it and then tried to show me some green chili in the burrito which they had just put in there to argue that it did have green chile. Im Mexican and nope that will not work with me. So I made them redo it right and they did, but the harm was already done. In Spanish I will say this: "Si le va poner pongale o si no pues no lo anuncie! Y la senora malacarienta arreglese la carita que al final de cuentas no le combiene ni a ti ni...
