Las Comadres — Restaurant in Santa Maria

Plenty of seating, super causal, the staff was very friendly, happy to answer questions about the food, and very accommodating. Like being over at my grandma's house, the woman behind the register exuded care in making sure I was totally content.

If you're going expecting Mexican food, don't. Even if the pictures are similar on the menu and some of the ingredients may be close- they're done very differently and this food won't leave you hungry & is so packed with flavor. Even the horchata is different, it's not packed with sugar, it's more about the cinnamon.

I've made the drive from slo two times just for this food and say this: it's definitely worth it. Probably not too many vegan or health options, a lot of carb, starch, etc. Very worth it if that's ok for you. Take a to go menu home with you to study up on the history and variety of this little known but...

I've only had realll good puposasa once, and most are decent, but these pupusasa were the best I've ever had !

Now when traveling from Bakerfield to Pismo Beach. I will forever start coming here.

I also ordered the " TIPICO SALVADOREN̈O plate, and the flavors were sooo enriching ! I was honestly surprised.

We arrived when they opened on a Saturday, and with in 30 mins, this place started to get packed. That says a lot about a place.

The pupusas are fantastic here. Never had them before but absolutely will go back and bring more people. You get quite a lot of food for the money so the value for your dollar is way up there. The people working here are very accommodating and nice. The menu is in English and quite large but not too much on it. The friend plantains are so tasty don't miss those. On my way out I let them know the food was very delicious and they kindly thanked me for my business and said they hope I come back A+ place and locals definitely seem to frequent this place as well.
