I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mikado Sushi, and I must say that my experience was delightful. Located next to the Santa Maria mall downtown , this restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and a diverse menu of Japanese cuisine. To start off my meal, I ordered three California Tempura Rolls, one TNT Roll, and one Spicy Crunch Roll. The California Tempura Rolls were a delightful twist on the classic California roll, as they were lightly battered and fried to perfection. The crunchy exterior added a satisfying texture to the creamy filling, and the combination was a true delight for my taste buds. The TNT Roll was a standout dish, packed with a burst of flavors. The blend of spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber provided a perfect balance of heat and freshness. Each bite was a mouthwatering experience that left me craving for more. The Spicy Crunch Roll was another winner on the menu. It had a fantastic kick of spiciness that perfectly complemented the crunchy texture. The combination of spicy mayo and the crispy topping provided a delightful contrast that added depth to the overall flavor. My dad opted for the Yakisoba Noodles, and I must say, they were a fantastic choice. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the stir-fried vegetables added a burst of color and freshness. The flavors were well-balanced, and the portion size was generous. It was evident that great care had been taken to create a dish that pleased both the eyes and the palate. One aspect that stood out to me was the reasonable prices at Mikado Sushi. The quality of the food far exceeded my expectations given the affordability. It was refreshing to find a restaurant that offered such a high standard of cuisine without breaking the bank. Overall, I would highly recommend Mikado Sushi to anyone looking for a satisfying Japanese dining experience. The delicious and well-prepared food, combined with friendly service, makes it a fantastic choice for both casual meals and special occasions. Whether you're a sushi lover or prefer other Japanese dishes, Mikado Sushi is sure to leave you satisfied. I can't wait to visit again and try more of their delectable offerings.

This is our go-to sushi place. We ate inside and were seated immediately at 4:30 on a Monday. We were happy to be seated because shortly after we arrived, a good line formed out to the parking lot and there was a wait to get in. We ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura, a California roll, and small edamame. All the dishes arrived quickly and we're very good. The servers checked back with us a few time to make sure we liked our food and had everything we needed. When we were finished they cleared our plates and brought the check quickly. Good service here.

I’ve been craving good sushi for the past couple months and I tried Mikado before and it was eh. I got it yesterday and it was SO GOOD. I ordered 4 rolls and ranked best to good (none of them were bad): Play Boy Roll, Ocean Tiger Roll, Santa Maria Roll, Fried Spicy Philadelphia. I also like their gyoza and miso soup. I liked the combination yakisoba but you just don’t get enough for the price. I did not like the Ocean 11 roll, jalapeño shrimp, monkey ball, sesame chicken, beef terryaki, or the Oh Boy roll.

Service was normal. We were sat and our order taken quickly and the miso soup was bomb so thats the only reason they got 3 stars. Some background here: I usually give out 5 stars as a default. I'm the most not picky eater in the world. If its food, I like it 9/10 times. However, the roll tasted like dirt. Not figuratively, literally like soil. I had 2 other people at my table try it to see if I was just being a little princess and they spit it out and agreed. So, instead I tried my husbands teriyaki chicken....to my surprise it was flavorless. No salt, no spices, no pepper nothing. Again, had 3 other people try it besides myself and they decided it was flavorless as well. Nobody ate it. So, still having a little hope for lunch I thought at least you cant mess up rice - right? Even if it's messed up I could douse it in some soy sauce and be golden. I try the rice. The other people tried the rice. We stopped mid chew, spat it out in our napkin and just laughed. How do you mess up rice?? Lolol It was soggy, too much water I think. Some of the random edemames were good, some were soggy, every bit was like playing russian roulette. How do edemames get soggy?? Lolol But hey, the Soporo was good!! We won't be back and don't recommend it, but the server was super sweet! PS we paid for everything as they still had to put the work in to make it, even though everything only had a couple bites to try it. Then we got...

I am new to the area and this is the first sushi spot I've been to. They have a pretty good "yellow" menu that you can order from that is basically 50% off when you order at least 2 items from (making each order around $10-12). I got the fried salmon, fried Philly, and salmon skin. All were pretty decent for the price except the salmon skin one because they added some lettuce to the plate on top of the sushi that honestly did nothing for the rolls as far as flavor or presentation goes. Just made it messier to eat.

The service was great, I was greeted right away when I entered and was sat fairly quickly. I ordered and kept a menu and two additional servers came over to check in on me to see if I had been helped already because of the open menu which I think is a Hallmark of good food service. Continued great service throughout the duration of my visit.

Bathroom was pretty clean, nothing remarkable or terrible about it.

I'd recommend coming here for midday stop when you are running errands and want a break (as I did) or if you are eating casually with friends, family, a significant other. I don't think this would be a first date kind of place because nothing is really memorable about it, so if you are trying to impress your date, you might find something better elsewhere.

TLDR; Food is decent for price, order off the "yellow" menu. Come casually, not for...
