I visited Dolcenero Gelato on Main Street in Santa Monica last night to celebrate my son's birthday, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. My son’s favorite flavor, strawberry, was removed from the display just before we ordered, despite my request to keep it. I asked the employee to hold off on removing it, but she ignored me. When I voiced my frustration about the situation, the employee was not only dismissive but downright rude, showing no regard for my concerns.
However, I want to commend the owner of Dolcenero Gelato for his response. After speaking with him this morning, he immediately acknowledged that the employee was in the wrong and apologized for the incident. To my surprise, the owner went above and beyond, personally delivering a large container of strawberry gelato to my home in the afternoon as a gesture of goodwill and an apology for the poor service we received.
This level of commitment to customer satisfaction is rare, and while the initial experience was far from acceptable, the owner’s actions were a true testament to his care for his customers. I won’t let one rude employee overshadow the dedication of the owner, and I look forward to giving Dolcenero...
Read moreMy wife and I just returned from 3 weeks in Italy on the 21 of November, and we started craving our gelato fix after only 10 days home. We looked online today (Dec 2) and found a place only 4 minutes walk from home. Of course, having just returned from the old country, I was a bit skeptical of finding anything like ice cream in the U.S. that isn't loaded with hfcs and lists of unpronouncable ingredients that leave you expecting crash out from the insulin spike.
Not so here. This place gets all of its ingredients from Italy. If you understand nutrition, and if you've lived outside of the U.S., you'll know the difference in the foods and why diabetes mellitus is so rampant (in the United States) and why liposuction is such a big deal here as well - but not so much in Europe.
Anyway, back to the gelato shop. Dolcenero Gelato is like being back in Italy, including the Italian owner who works this place: great work ethic, with excellent customer service and delicious product. No corn syrup. No fructose (which fools the body into thinking it's hungry).
If you want a light snack that feels heavy, hit this spot. I guarantee that you'll...
Read moreThis has been my favourite gelato spot for probably 4 years now. I always order salted caramel with ricotta fig. I went in there a few weeks ago and noticed how the portions were so much smaller. The price had stayed the same. I felt a little disappointed. Anyway, I went back this afternoon and in addition to even smaller portions, the prices had gone up. They now charge for "premium flavours". So now I find this unacceptable. Do one or the other - don't do both. The woman who served me was very stubborn when I said wow the portions are a lot smaller and the price has gone up. She asserted this was not the case - that she had worked there for 6 months. I said I'd ordered this many many times over several year - I am not wrong. I won't be back. What a shame. We all know it seems that EVERYTHING has gone up these days, but don't get greedy. Oh, and of course I'm also...
