Alchemie Spa — Local services in Santa Monica

I received a Swedish massage and hot stone mani-pedi. Starting with customer service, everyone was very nice. From the front desk to my massage therapist. The products they use are great and eco-friendly. However, the Swedish massage was just too much of a pampering experience. It wasn't effective in getting rid of tension in my body. The therapist was so gentle to the point of it just left me wanting more. I've had countless Swedish massages that are effective and deep enough. It just depends on the skill level of the therapist and if they know what kind of effect their massage has on people. In my opinion, a great massage therapist will be great by all opinions, because they are aware of how it feels for you. This wasn't terrible, but I have experienced better. And I would be reluctant to go back. The facility was really nice and the attitude was attentive and caring. But in the end, I'm going to have a great service, not talk to friendly sales people.

I was underwhelmed at the $80 price-tag of their hot stone mani-pedi. For the price, the detail of service was the same or less than the dozens of mani-pedi places along Main Street and around Santa Monica. And there is no massage chair. For $20, I can get the same thing elsewhere, minus the hot stones, which were only about a minute or so on each hand and foot. The manicurist wasn't very engaging. I felt I was something for her to get done with rather than to be given an experience to.

I just really want Alchemie Spa to be better. It's in a great location, has a cute vibe and look. Maybe a better screening process during hiring would help, since the main drawback, in both of my visits, was with the service itself. A beautiful space located in the heart of Santa Monica. An organic retreat that includes an extensive list of eco-friendly beauty and body services that can be tailored to meet the needs of the individual. Excellent business hours. Exceptional product line available, one of which is a California based company that prides itself on using ingredients that are both 'raw and organic!

My services included one of their Signature Facials coupled with an added Enzyme Peel. I was pleased with the esthetician's use of non-latex gloves whilst administering the facial. As much as I like the feel of skin to skin during a facial treatment, I appreciated the suggested pro-hygienic practice of using gloves.

The space was balanced in lighting and offered a therapeutic atmosphere of serenity.

I was also delighted with the spa's offer of alkaline water in a glass, rather than the all-too-often accompaniment of bottled water. The waiting area offers a beautiful array of hot teas to choose from as well. One can enjoy these teas whilst before or after a treatment!

The only fault I did find was the somewhat less than streamline front desk personal. I do think that it was timing. My appointment was one of the last in the day during a busy holiday weekend. Hopefully, next time there will be a smoother transaction of checking-in, checking-out, etc.

Although, despite the one little hiccup, I would not hesitate to go back. Actually, I cannot for my next appointment! I am looking forward to enjoying the pristine beauty of the space and experiencing the professionalism and knowledge...

Do yourself a favor and please don’t go there! You spend so much money and you expect at least a good massage but guess what they did a horrible job. My masseuse was Rachel it was a full body massage with hot stones. She only focused on my shoulders and neck and didn’t massage the entire body. Probably only spent few minutes other than shoulders and neck. If I wanted just two areas I would have specifically gone to someone for that. I paid for full service and I barely got anything done. Rachel quickly went over hot stones again just on one area of the body even though I paid for whole body massage. When brought up at the end she told me I should have paid for 80 minutes instead of 60 minutes. Extremely disappointed with Rachel and her service. She should distribute her time to focus evenly on completing the service instead of focusing just one area. I had to go somewhere else to pay again and get the massage. I came to this place with high hopes but I will never come again. Please don’t choose Rachel as your massage therapist or else you will waste your money.
