FOOD Churros (Lechera)- $5; 3/10 honestly tasted like it was done days ago. the outer layer was a soft and rubbery texture but not toasted or most importantly crunchy. the inside was just gooey. the lechera topping which cost an additional $1 kind of saved it but it was overall a easy, especially the price where i could go to a food truck and get 10 big churros for the same price ...
*O.G Plate (Steak)- $18 Taco; 7/10, nothing groundbreaking but also nothing too bad
Queso taco; 7.5/10, the cheese was pretty stringy and warm, after a while it becomes a plastic like structure
Molita; 7/10, same as the queso taco, but flat ..
Quesadilla; 7.8/10, the biggest one so far, has loads of delicious charcoal steak and cheese to fill you right up
Consomé; 8/10, only downside is it's given in a tiny cup but the consistency is great with the tacos
Green Salsa; 9/10, good amount of spice and not enough to have you drinking water after every bite
Agua de Jamaica- 7.8/10 ~$5 nothing too bad or too good, just a refreshing drink
AMBIANCE has mexican music constantly playing, there's also seating outside if you want more fresh air BUT if you're inside be prepared to swap flies from your food
SERVICE average, you can tell some employees are just trying to get the day over with but i personally don't mind because i can see where they're coming from. took about 5 minutes to get the food which was...
Read moreWow, these are some seriously delicious tacos and burritos. As someone who grew up in San Diego and moved LA five years ago i still find it very hard to find Mexican food that tastes as good as back home but I would say that Papi’s is a LA spot that is definitely worth visiting. Everything that we tried was honestly surprisingly good and the churros were also fairly good as well. I have had better churros recently so would say that their savory items are the main reason to visit. It can get quite busy depending on the time of day, but usually your order is made very quickly. The portion sizes are large and hearty too. We chose to do takeout for our meal so I cannot speak to in person dining. Pricing is fair and I definitely was not hungry after finishing my meal.
Since it was our first time we chose to do a few different items. We ordered the OG Burrito and the OG Plate because they both seem to be the most popular items ordered. The burrito was honestly terrific and the birria inside was juicy and very flavorful. I especially liked the coating on the tortilla and the ratio of ingredients inside it was exactly what I expected. The OG Plate was also very good and I especially liked the street sized versions of all the different items that they offer.
I would highly recommend and I plan to be back in the future to...
Read moreIt's such a great find for us! It's hard enough to find halal food already, and usually there isn't a lot of variety for us but to find an authentic mexican restaurant, and that also HALAL was absolutely amazing. We ordered 5 OG Plates - 4 Beef Birria OG plates with everything and 1 Carne asada OG plate with avocado. Everything was 10/10 👌👌👌👌👌 We also ordered Churros,(fyi it takes a looooong time for the churros to come out), we took them to-go & ate them in the car so I do not have pictures of those to share. But they did feel like worth the wait! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. 10/10. Generously coated in cinnamon sugar and topped with whatever you choose, but my personal favorite was Dulche de leche, and you can never go wrong with Nuttela. (Please don't get chocolate!,not great) They do not have a restroom, which is unfortunate for a restaurant that claims to be world famous. They do have parking on 1236 4th st. Also, only one person was frantically taking order, serving, and cleaning as well, which kind of resulted in delayed service. But I guess I just got them on a bad day. The staff is very friendly otherwise. Definitely visit them if you are in Santa Monica and show...
