I've been to Shoop's before and would give it 4/5 stars but after the last experience it's getting a 1 and I won't be offering it my patronage again ...
On a Sunday, when the place was surely packed, I called ahead to see about a table for two. Due to the person I was meeting running late I sat myself outside for 45 or so minutes as to not disturb the flow. Then 10 mins prior I came in and requested a table to which I was served. My meeting was 5-10 mins away and I was offered, after 5 mins of sitting, to leave and waiting outside again due to "it being in high demand" when there were tables all around me without anyone seated. They allowed me to wait 5 mins, my meeting showed up. After this they kindly poured coffee, I thought everything would be great - then they bombarded with order reminders until me and my meeting we're uncomfortable so we ordered fruit just to get it over with ...
We wanted breakfast but due to both of us living so far away from each other we wanted to talk first. We were rudely disturbed until our only option was to force an order, one which we didn't care for as we'd been turned off by the service, and eat elsewhere.
Too bad, Shoop's. This one terrible experience out weighs...
Read moreAll I want is morning cuddles and pancakes. Shoop’s Delicatessen (est. 2000) is a family owned cafe and market place on Main Street in Ocean Park. This particular local spot is unique because its a market place at the same time a cafe restaurant. It’s indoor dining space was somewhat limited, however, they have a very spacious outdoor patio. Interior design was plain and simple with European meats, fish and sausages on glass display. I chose to have breakfast on the front patio. They have a wide variety of breakfast and lunch on their menu. After I perused their breakfast items; I end up ordering a regular hot Latte and a Banana Pancakes. Service was fast and efficient. Their Banana Pancakes were pretty good, it’s warm, soft, fluffy on the inside and a lil crunchy on top. You can see the banana on every slice. Moreover, their regular Latte served in a small glass was subpar in quality and taste. I enjoyed the food more than the drink. Anyway, staff was amiable and followed health protocol. Prices were very surprisingly reasonable given its location. Plenty of Parking lots around the area. Overall, it was a simple cafe restaurant that offer good pancakes-breakfast. I’d...
Read moreMy wife and I can't say enough about Shoop's. We were visiting from Michigan last week and a good friend said that we had to try this place for breakfast as it was one of his favorite spots. We were very impressed with how friendly the owner, Matt, was to us and to all of his customers. The food was fantastic! I had the egg white Body Wrap which was truly amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. I also had a blueberry pancake which had more blueberries than pancake! Since we were leaving back to Michigan that day, my wife was so impressed, she decided to have dessert after breakfast as the homemade desserts looked too enticing!! She had a chocolate mousse, my friend had a very large chocolate dipped strawberry and I had a fruit torte. All of them were excellent. The other staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very fun and upbeat. You could tell that there were several other "regulars" by their interactions with Matt. My ONLY complaint is that there isn't a Shoop's in Michigan!!! Make sure that you stop and try them. You won't regret it. When we get the chance to come back to Santa Monica, we are definitely...
