Delicious as usual. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff...
Update: I went for dinner on Tuesday night, 4/16/24. I would have to say it was the worst visit to any RRS I've encountered. We sat at the bar. There were plenty of seats available. No problem there.
I will say the $5 margarita was so crappy I wouldn't have offered .5 for it if given the option. I can understand it being crappy for the price, but I guess I was expecting to at least taste the alcohol. I could only taste the margarita mix. My friend added a shot to hers. It wasn't much better. We ordered the appetizer sampler and two vip rolls, one baked one fried. I had the baked roll. When it came out, everything tasted fine. For some reason, the chef decided to lay my sushi flat on its side and stack it up, and then bake it. It was like a rice burrito. I couldn't tell where one piece ended and where the next began. I have never been to any restaurant that served sushi by the roll and had it served flat. So I called the waitress over and simply (out of curiosity) asked what was up with it being sideways. Something in her snaps. She never allowed me the opportunity to say the food tasted fine. She just got really irritated and said, "I'll have him remake it." To which I replied."No, that won't be necessary, I'm already full, and I won't be able to eat it anyway."
She wouldn't take no for an answer. Now, keep in mind that the appetizer still hasn't come. Our sushi came first. She leaves and does not come back until the appetizer comes out. The jalapenos are so small that you couldn't see them until we flipped it over. Only to find them overcooked and gross looking. We basically boxed the appetizer up for nothing. Nothing on the plate was edible. The potstickers were gummy. Just a mess. We also never got the margarita my friend ordered. I get that the cooks are in training, but I think it was very poor oversight that had two inexperienced chefs working the dinner rush. I guess I'll take a break and give them time to get it together.
I understand that being a server isn't always easy. I never expect anything to be taken out on me (the customer) because you are having a crappy day.
I always aim to be fair with my reviews, so I won't slam them too hard. I will have to drop a star in the food and service category until my next visit. That is assuming they give me good reason to change it.
One more update from 5/24/24
Ordered lunch (black container of food in my lap). For $30, I got 7 pieces of chicken, 6 shrimp, and maybe 7 pieces of filet mignon. I had double veggies and a miso soup. It was good and fresh. It was...
Read moreI always try and leave good reviews for anywhere I eat. I know no one is perfect and I honestly always try and give people the benefit of the doubt. First let me say the sushi is as good as any place I've ever eaten. I've eaten in this restaurant more times than I can count and I have never had anything that wasn't exceptional. With that said the waitresses seem to be preoccupied with their phones and bothered when you need something. This has been going on for close to a year. We've had waitresses bad mouth other employees to us. The last time we ate here our order was wrong and we could barely get refills. There were only a couple of people in the restaurant and the two waitresses barely looked at us. They were at the bar on their phones the entire time. I never tip below 20% bc i know it's hard work and lots of people don't tip well. I also try and be as nice as possible to show them i appreciate them waiting on us. I feel like getting our order right and refilling our glasses should be standard practice. Last night we called a little after eight to get takeout and we were told they were done with takeout for the night, even though they don't close until nine. The lady that answered the phone didn't seem to really care one way or the other. I hate leaving bad reviews but we've spent thousands of dollars over the years eating here and I would think customer service matters. Unfortunately we will not be returning after last night. I truly hope the owner's will get their staff under control so they can truly...
Read moreFirst time at a "Rock N Roll Sushi". I walked up to the bar and ordered take out. Decent variety of drink and various sushi rolls. I ordered the Gin-Ice Joplin, kind of a cucumber mojito sort of drink. As is typical with most places they pulverized the mint leaves rather than muddle which makes the drink have pulpy bits of leaves in every sip. My main pet peeve with any mint drink. I ordered the california roll and spider roll both of which I would rate 7s of 10. Pretty decent and satisfactory, just not perfect. Could have been fresher, house made sauces, better ratios of ingredients, more emphasis on flavor profile. As a music lover and a sushi lover I expected to love this place and maybe that is what set my initial expectations too high but as a niche market as Classic rock/ Sushi is I think you really need to nail a smaller 6 item special menu (drinks and food) rather than 15 decent ones and overwhelm the customer with a lot of pun filled, poorly conceptualized drinks and rolls. Great concept but I really feel like the franchise isn't optimized. 3 of 5 stars. Will probably back go for take out rolls if I'm feeling too lazy to drive further as its rather close to my house.
On re-reading the review I feel like I was too critical so I would also like to add some pro's.
Staff was accommodating and friendly.
Best Sushi in Saraland for sure.
Seems like a fun place to go with friends for a drink and some rolls.
Drink was strong and had a good flavor (Despite my feelings...
