We’ve been back to Anchors multiple times for lunch since my initial review, so I thought I’d post an update.

In the past nine months or so, we’ve tried several menu items in addition to the Alaskan halibut and lobster roll. The shrimp tacos, scallops, fish & chips combo, ceviche, fish & chips, and crab cake sandwich were all cooked perfectly and tasted great. Service was equally efficient and friendly, and we’ve gotten to know one of the servers (Carlos) by name.

Any restaurant can have a good or bad day, but consistency is vital for success. I’m delighted to report that Anchors Fish & Chips and Seafood has been consistently good over an extended period of time.

My wife and I are from New England, and we love fresh fish and shellfish, so we were eager to try Anchors as soon as they opened their nearby Saratoga restaurant. It was a real treat!

A lobster roll is at the top of my wife’s list of favorites, and she liked Anchors’ take on this classic sandwich. But the highlight of our meal was my fresh grilled Alaskan halibut served with jasmine rice and veggies (my choice of two side dishes). I’ve had Pacific halibut at other local seafood restaurants but it’s unusual to find it fresh from Alaska and I can really taste the difference. The fish was perfectly grilled, moist and flaky, and just plain delicious without any sauce to mask the taste. Veggies (mostly zucchini) were nicely grilled and the rice had a little drizzle of teriyaki sauce.

We enjoyed our meals so much that we went back for lunch again a week later. I was ready for another grilled halibut but my wife wanted to try other menu items so she ordered a cup of clam chowder and the halibut fish and chips. She thought that the chowder was good but she absolutely loved her fish and chips. The two large pieces of panko crusted halibut were crisp on the outside while the fish stayed moist and tender. Surprisingly, the French fries were limp and unappetizing. Other reviewers have said the same thing about the fries. This should be an easy fix!

Outdoor seating in the Saratoga location is limited to two tables directly in front and another five in a temporary “parklet” across the sidewalk. On a sunny day they fill up almost immediately after the restaurant opens at 11:30am. Anchors doesn’t take reservations.

This is a family owned business (three locations) and it feels like a good old fashioned casual neighborhood restaurant. Based on our two visits we’ve decided that it’s now our favorite destination for...

One of the worst experiences I've had. We were the first table to be sat down....we got our food ordered within 10 min of opening ....then it took another 10 min to get our water....it was clear the wait staff was lacking and they had a new hire, which is fine, but no one was helping them. Also after we order 15 min passes and the waiter comes back to confirm what I ordered, which he wrote down as a crab sandwich when I ordered the crab Ciopinno...part our food came out about 20 min after we ordered...we didn't get 3/5 items we ordered...so while part of the table had their food...our kids didn't....and the waiter kept saying it's coming right up ( tables Sat after us were getting their food before us). Bottom line is its took an hour for my daughter toy get her clan chowder with a bread bowl....and I never got my Cioppino. I even talked to the owner...which they did not hung to rectify the situation...even getting the check to leave wad painful...I should have just left without paying, as they have no concern four their customers...AVOID THIS PLACE....I would have given them another chance if the owners actually admitted the issue and apologized for their poor service. No gestures were made to rectify the situation (free drinks, dessert, maybe even a gift card to come back), but nothing was offered and honestly they didn't seem to care. With that said I won't be returning to this place. Yea they could have had a rough day, but don't continue to lie to your customers if the food wasn't ordered, I wish they would have been upfront in that they were short staffed....another one...

My family and I have been here twice, and it has been consistently impressive thus far. The ambiance is cozy, quaint, and welcoming. The service is exceptional, and the food is EXCELLENT. #1 rule to seafood is freshness, and they have NO issues here. The menu is simple, with a surprising variety of options. We had the fish n' chips, which was light, crunchy, and cooked perfectly. The tartar sauce is DEE-LISH. They also have a few variations to customize your dish. My son and I opted to order the bowls this time. Mine was teriyaki glazed salmon over rice and veggies. The flavor was punchy and smoky, and the plating was impressive. My son had the same dish but with prawns. My only feedback is that the vegetables would be better in heartier portions rather than micro cuts. But it was so good, the entire table ended up finishing this dish! We also ordered the fettuccine with prawns, and it did not disappoint either. They offer burgers and a couple of non-seafood options as well, and those are done well, too. Parking both times at 7pm-ish was no problem whatsoever, and they have patio seating as well. The pricing is fair ($87 tab for 3, with drinks) , and they offer a full bar and a happy hour. Match this with their excellent service, and it's a no-brainer....

Anchors just had their soft opening today (11/1/21) in downtown Saratoga. I ordered the fresh shellfish combination which included black mussels, New Zealand green mussels and little neck clams while my wife had the Cod fish and chips. My wife really liked her fish and chips which she eats as often as she can so she has a real good baseline to judge this dish. I’m a shellfish aficionado and IMHO this was the best shellfish I’ve had in years. What I particularly like was the broth in which the shellfish had been cooked. The broth was so good that after I finished the included bread I just decided to eat the shellfish with the broth until there was none left! I particularly liked that the seasoning was slightly spicy and not bland like most restaurants make it. It shouldn’t be too hot for most people. We can’t wait to try their other dishes!
