Short version: Bride and groom had to spend a night at home and one night with a crappy portable AC, reservations were lost several times, and the owner is incredibly rude.
Long version:
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this hotel, particularly if you're thinking of using it for your wedding. We were initially skeptical about some of the bad reviews, and when we visited the front office they dismissed them as unrealistic couples expecting to check in hours early and such. Let me say, that is absolutely not the case, and explain the numerous reasons why I would recommend against ever staying here.
The biggest reason would be that of our two night stay, we were only able to actually stay there one night. Unfortunately our AC was broken, and it was a very hot weekend. We informed the management we thought it was broken when we checked in, again at 5pm when we returned to the room, and finally at 10pm. It was not fixed. Luckily we only live about 20 minutes from the hotel so we returned home at spent the night there. Unfortunately, our room was the room the bridal party was supposed to get ready in so this posed a significant problem for the next day. The owner refused to have the AC fixed that night, and instead provided a portable AC the next day. Since this was not nearly as effective as a real AC we decided to have the bridal party get ready in an extra room.
Due to this inconvenience, and the fact that we were not able to spend one of the nights in the room (with a mediocre AC), the owner told our wedding planner that he would refund both of our nights, and proceeded to do so. There was possible a miscommunication there, because after we checked out he charged one of the days back to our credit card. When I called and asked why the owner basically accused of us lying saying we were not going to spend the second night there, and refused to refund our money despite massive inconvenience caused in addition to an unfit room. Given this was for a wedding for which we had numerous rooms, this was particularly upsetting.
Additional things to note besides this fiasco:
Our room was not ready on time (over 30 minutes late, which is not acceptable when you have a tight rehearsal schedule). Our room block got lost SEVERAL times and they could not find our reservations.
Overall, the owner is very rude, and several of the staff members seemed incompetent. I would highly recommend avoiding this place...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Saratoga Oaks Lodge this past June 28th through July 2nd, when we were in Saratoga for a friend’s wedding. The location is great, right at the end of Old Saratoga’s Main Street, with every kind of ethnic restaurant, two great coffee / breakfast places, a nail and hair salon, and even a hip vintage guitar shop! We had dinner at an Italian restaurant called Florentine, which is owned by a gentleman from Calabria, and is the real deal for Southern Italian cuisine! And it was just a three minute walk from our hotel room door!||As for the property itself, the basic room seemed like it had been recently updated, and was fresh and clean, with a very comfortable king bed. That being said the bathroom sink was in the main part of the bedroom, rather than the bathroom, which was a little odd, not I wouldn’t consider it a deal breaker.||We originally booked the basic room, and while I could have lived with the bathroom sink being in the bedroom, a lot of morning light came in through a window along the back wall, and that was a problem for me. The front windows all had plantation shutters, which are great for keeping the light out, but this back window just had a thin shade that didn’t quite do the trick.||So, I decided to try and change our room to another that would stay darker in the morning, and the only other room available was a “bungalow room,” which the desk clerk Curtis said would be an additional $70 per night. When he showed us the new room, beyond staying darker in the mornings, it was so spacious and well apportioned with a big screen tv, fireplace, jacuzzi bathtub, beautifully tiled shower with a great water pressure, we had an easy decision to pay the additional $70 per night and go for it! And of course the bathroom sink was even in the bathroom!||The next day Curtis’ work partner, Mike saw me and volunteered that Curtis was able to adjust the rate for the bungalow room to only $20 more per night, rather than $70! And that kind of service just said so much to me, that I felt compelled to let the whole world...
Read moreDo not go! This is a waste of a wonderful location, ruined by a staff that should do something other that run a hotel. The room we stayed in was big enough and nice. Stayed two nights and on the day, they forgot to clean the room. When I called, they sent the front desk person with a bunch of towel and clearly a bad attitude. He proceeded to explain me that I had made a mistake with the do not disturb sign. Clearly I was a moron. He eventually changed the towels, dusted out the room. In lieu of apology, he threw the do not disturb sign at me. We were in an episode of Fawlty Towers! All that in a room that only had the price as a luxury. No bathrobes, traces of crushed insects on the wall. Wi-fi was terrible, kept switching out. I had to wait to be at San Jose airport to catch up with my emails...And an arrogant know-it-all at the front desk. There are nicer places across the street or in Los Gatos. Do not go there. I will...
