WHEEEW CHILE! WHERE DO I BEGIN? First let me start by saying we actually had not planned on coming to this restaurant. We went to another Soul Food restaurant but after entering and seeing that there was not a melanin person behind the counter talking bout, "this protein and that protein" we exited. So we came here to Munchies. We were able to find street parking easily without no problems but before you get to the restaurant you smell the aroma of juicy fat and flavor on a smoker a mile away. When I walked in it reminded me of my great Aunt's house during a family event. Pleasant conversations, laughter, delightful aromas of food and Whitney Houston on the TV. I was greeted by a friendly lady who thanked me warmly for joining and patiently waiting while she handled another hungry belly. We ordered the rib and chicken combo with red rice and sausage, Mac n cheese, and lemonade tea mix. Also, oxtail with red rice and sausage, collard greens, Mac and cheese, deviled crab and another mix. I decided to get back in line to get a side of potato salad, cause it looked so good. It was actually calling me y'all. Let me tell y'all something THIS IS THE BEST BBQ NEAR AND FAR! EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. NO SERIOUSLY EVERYTHING AND THE RED RICE AND SAUSAGE I HAD NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE BUT ON THIS DAY. THIS DAY, TODAY NO RICE WILL EVER, NEVER COMPARE. Ribs, chicken, and oxtail seasoned DELICIOUSLY AND COOKED TO PERFECTION, Mac and cheese was good, not as gooey cheesey as I like but still flavorful and good.
Now y'all know how people are about their potato salad....... AWESOME AND AWESOME!
Did I say that the Ribs, chicken, and oxtail were seasoned DELICIOUSLY AND COOKED TO PERFECTION,
OMG WHAT IS THIS RED RICE AND SAUSAGE? I COULD JUST EAT THIS FOR THE REST OF MY TIME HERE ON THIS EARTH.
I don't think I can give a better review for this restaurant and NO I am not being paid for this review but I just had to let y'all know my true experience cause it was GUT APPROVED! GO...
Read moreMom and I stayed in Savannah for a night and before we left for our long drive home we decided we needed to get some BBQ. We are all about experiencing the best when we travel and Munchies was a name that came up several times in my online search for “Best BBQ in Savannah” we stayed right around the corner from this establishment and decided to give it a go. We walked into this seemingly family owned and locally operated joint and although it wasn’t put together like a Sonny’s, Dustin’s, or any other run of the mill BBQ hotspot, the food and atmosphere was mouthwatering and warm, and that’s all that matters!! At the time we went the air was out, so it was hot, but they had fans out to help with it. The dining area was clean and well kept. The staff was all kind and welcoming and spoke to you as if you were a part of the family as well. Everything looked so good and I just only wish that had a sampler option where you got a scoop of everything. That may seem like a lot but that’s how good this food looked AND tasted that I would have gladly paid any amount to have that option. We were driving back home and wanted to bring some back to share. Instead we have decided Munchies will be a mandatory stop every time we are passing through, heading home after a weekend of travel. The amount of meat they give you is plentiful and I cannot recommend Munchies enough! I had ordered the ribs and chicken with macaroni and cheese and red rice and sausage. The lovely woman behind the counter asked if I wanted sauce on top and I eagerly accepted. She replied...
Read moreI love y’all. When I come in I never say much (still kinda new in town. I’m from Charleston, SC and haven’t been here a year yet), but anytime I want soul food, I come here. I’ve been 5 times already. This past weekend I came back to back—two days in a row. The money I spent is well worth it. When I walk in I feel like I walked into my auntie’s house who enjoys feeding people. As I stood in the line last weekend, I watched how the team all work so very well together. When the serving area is running low, the server gives a signal and “Unc” as I heard her call him, comes out the back to replenish the food within seconds. The man or woman who checks us out is always so thorough and kind. Ready for the orders so they can get us out swiftly. Everyone is greeted when they walk in. The atmosphere truly feels like family. Now lemme get to da food and I guh use my Gullah-Geechee dialect fa dis yah part: dat food is good up! Da red rice, da collards, da ribs, and da macaroni is my go-to. I don’t get nuttin’ else cause dat plate be so good every time. The macaroni is the best I ever had, but please don’t tell my mama. lol. I can’t wait to try the oxtails cause I see a few people order dat. In closing, I truly love y’all—the food, the atmosphere, the service, and the way y’all authentically serve your people—your clients. Highly recommend! Oh, I got the devil crab too! Nuttin, but crab meat! Tell the person who make that I said, “Perfection!”...
