It is no wonder JC Penney is struggling to survive based on my miserable experience with them today. They have 2 counters around the store, Checkout and Customer Service. We checked out at the Checkout counter. However, when I went back to make a simple exchange, same item but different color, and waited for 15 minutes at Customer Service they said they didn’t do exchanges. If you can’t do returns or exchanges at Customer Service, what exactly do they do? I was then sent back to the catalog counter in the back of the store. There were 2 lines that were marked. One was for online purchases and the other was dedicated to returns and exchanges. I got into the second lane. There was nobody ahead of me. The manager that was working that register looked at me and then told the person in the other lane to come up, even though I was next for that line. . The manager’s name tag said Lisa. I couldn’t see the name tag of the person who ended up doing the exchange. As I’m waiting another 15 minutes for the people at the counter to figure out what they were doing, the lines behind me are filling up. Finally the other register opens up and I go to the counter. It should have been a simple exchange. The price tag on the back of each of the items was the same. The cashier told me I owed extra money. I said no, I didn’t, they’re the same item. She got indignant with me saying they rung up differently. I explained to her that there is a mistake in the system and she just refused to help. In the interest of being done with this entire encounter and not to waste another minute of my time, I paid the bogus amount and left. The lack of signage explaining what stations did what wasted time. The signs that were marked but not utilized as marked wasted even more time. And the unwillingness of the employee to correct the mistake (the items were obviously exactly alike) which wasted my money and has earned Penney’s this review. Read moreWent in to buy my wife a new bathing suit. No one working in the store offered to help. Plenty of employees around, they just gave me weird looks like I was picking them out for myself. My wife and I chose a few for her to try on. We eventually found the dressing room with no help from employees. However we finally got some interaction from them when I stood to close to the dressing room. Apparently they have a policy not to let men stand in the hall of the dressing room. There was no sign indicating that it was even a women's dressing room or that it was gender specific. I asked the rude employee what I was doing wrong and she said that I was not allowed to stand there. I asked why and she said it was just not allowed because other customers might be in there. I explained that I was merely waiting for my wife in an area that she could try on the suits so I could see them without her having to come out of dressing room and into the store. She still said no. So I politely moved out into store. However I feel that someone coming out of a dressing room fully clothed would likely be less offended by my presence. I also believe that most women, my wife included would prefer not to come out into the main store in a bathing suit that they are trying on. (He bought it for Christmas) He tells them that whatever plan covers sizing, that is what he needed. The day after Christmas, I went in to get it resized. The same girl sized my finger told me it would be 4 weeks and everything was fine. Four weeks later I call, and they say NOTHING has been done to my ring, but it was back. Tacy went on to explain that the salesgirl was new, and she made a mistake. She sold him the 2-year plan instead of the lifetime (which covers sizing) Not only did she mess up with him, but she also willingly took my ring, sent it off to be sized and for nothing. They still have not fixed this mistake but wanted me to pay additional to upgrade to lifetime package. I'm still awaiting her call to figure out how they are going to fix their mistake.
