This was our first time coming here. I’m no stranger to Polish food, so I wanted to try this place out since they close a lot later than other places. We went this past Saturday, it was someone’s party so it was pretty busy. I’m not sure if they’re normally that busy on the weekends. We got seated right away. You can tell it’s authentic since most of the customers plus the staff speak Polish. Pro tip: if there is a language barrier, pull out that smart phone you always have and look up Google translate. Should not take that long to pull up. It did take some time for us to receive our food because of the ongoing event, that’s understandable. They’re also severely understaffed, so they didn’t expect a multitude of people coming in after 8 pm. For every table that left, it seemed like 5 groups of people would come. We ordered a variety of food to try. Food portions were very generous and huge. Prices were very fair for what you get, but what they charge in person is different from their website prices. Be aware of that. Service was lacking, we had to keep flagging down someone. However, it could be different if it was on another day. FYI, there is a 12% sales tax in addition to the 3% surcharge. Not sure why the sales tax is so high since I’ve eaten at other restaurants in that area. Unfortunately, I’ll have to give them a 3 out of 5 due to the price disparities (in person from online), high sales tax, and mediocre service. I just took some screen shots to show their official website prices are $2 cheaper than what they charge in person. -hot tea 3 - good tea and they offer you a nice selection of different flavors. However, $5 is so much for just hot water and a tea packet. -red borscht with dumplings 5 - traditional Polish soup. It’s red beet soup with meat dumplings. Dumplings were very good. Meat wasn’t dry. -potato pancakes 5 - crispy and moist. Good flavor. -pork hock 5 - ridiculously tender and juicy. Cuts off the bone easily. Star of the show. -pork shoulder 3.5 - it was sizzling when I received it but the meat seemed to be kind of tough. I usually like my meat tender but this one seemed a little overcooked.

Bacowka is an upscale establishment that serves traditional polish dishes and also has a bar. The food here is really quite good. It instantly brought back memories of my parents home-cooked polish meals. The portions are VERY large. I would not recommend ordering appetizers unless you are extremely hungry or have a large party. I want to start out by saying the bread service here was the best I have ever had. The bread is served with a pate, and it so dang good! I ended up eating 3/4 of it before we ordered an appetizer! Seriously, it blows away any traditional butter or vinegarette dispply sauce. The sampler platter definitely seems to be the way to go. It really does have a good variety of food that will hit every taste bud you might have a itch for. The presentation of the dish is quite good as well. The downside is that I feel like the restaurant lacks personality. It has your typical upscale coffee shop vibe and it has a ton of tvs showing sports. I wish the restaurant was styled more like a polish restaurant and had polish decorations on the walls, removed the TVs and had traditional polish music playing in the background. I was wish the good was cheaper eith smaller portions. Like it is seriously a ton of food. It's honestly probably a little too much, so I think smaller portions with lower price point would be better. However, I got the beef with horseradish sauce, and I was not disappointed. The sauce was delish, but I wish it had a bit more horseradish. I personally would have liked it stronger. But it came with a hearty serving of beef and mashed potatoes. It also came with some smaller side (coleslaw, cucumber salad and picked beets). However, I thought the sides didn't go with dish as they were all very cold and the dish was warm.

This place was so good a year ago but not anymore. When we first visited Bacowka in 2017 while visiting our family in Chicago we couldn't wait to go there again. From soups we loved the Zurek and Kwasnica which reminded us of Zakopane in Poland famous for this type of food. We also enjoyed the Kapusta Zasmazana as a side for the breaded pork chop which also was seasoned well and very tasty but everything that we tried was delicious and authentic. Not anymore. We went there twice again during our stay in Chicago during Easter 2018 and we were so disappointed. The soups were not the same anymore. The Zurek which last year was more on the sour and spicy side (as it supposed to be) this time was served sweet! I think they started adding carrots to it and it changed the taste. It was also over-salted and I thought they were serving it with a whole potato inside and it was missing this time. The Kwasnica was not that bad but also extremely over-salted. The Kapusta Zasmazana was another disappointment. Last year it tasted more traditional and I thought it was prepared from fresh cabbage. This time it seemed to be made from sauerkraut and it was just disgusting. The pork chop was tasty and seasoned well but it looked a little bit burned and seemed to be deep fried, not pan fried as it supposed to be. We visited the place twice last week thinking that our disappointment during the first visit was caused by Easter but the second visit and proved that the place got much worse. Personally I hate seeing great restaurants getting worse over time but this is what happened to Bacowka and I hope that the owners will address these issues before our next visit in Chicago.

Last month, I celebrated a milestone birthday at Bacówka, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Everything about the evening was flawless and exceeded my expectations. As a proud Polish host, I chose Bacówka to showcase my heritage to my many guests, and it turned out to be the perfect decision. Food: The food was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with authentic flavors. From the appetizers to the main course, every bite was a delight, offering a true taste of Poland that impressed all my guests. A thoughtful and generous gesture was wrapping up all the leftover food, complete with containers for my guests to take home. I chose Option C along with a cold cuts and cheese board, and the portions were incredibly generous. Music: The music perfectly complemented the evening, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. It was so infectious that my guests never left the dance floor—it was a non-stop party! Ambiance: The ambiance was magical. The decor was stunning, and the lighting created a warm, inviting atmosphere that made everyone feel special. The attention to detail, from the beautifully set tables to the overall vibe, truly captured the essence of a joyous celebration. Service: The service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. They accommodated special requests seamlessly and added personalized touches that made the evening unforgettable.Special thanks to Agnieszka, in helping me plan my party. I truly appreciated your efforts to accommodate more guests and make it all happen seamlessly. A big thank you to Marcin as well for his exceptional attentiveness and for treating me and my guests like royalty. Your efforts made the event even more special! Overall, my experience at Bacówka was absolutely unforgettable. It was the perfect venue to celebrate such an important milestone. My guests were blown away, calling it an epic party, and the next day I was flooded with messages raving about how much fun they had. I highly recommend Bacówka to anyone looking for an exceptional dining and celebration experience, whether for a special occasion or just a...

Overall pretty low experience. Definitely will not be back. I ate there potato pancakes once and they are good. Today I was in the area with two non polish speaking friends and I decided to introduce them to my native kitchen. Unfortunately from service perspective they are still stuck in communist Poland. We ordered soup. It came cold so I flagged waitress and asked her to give us another one that is warm. Soup came back and tasted like nothing. Seemed like chef just add boiling water into it. I told this to our waitress and her response was that it is impossible. I returned the soup. Friend of mine had salad with chicken and his meet was dry and tough . He put most of it to the side. Also he asked for olive oil or a choice of different light dressing. His salad came with some kind of mayonnaise. Same waitress responded that that is all they have and all their dressings are based on Mayo. Pierogi that I requested without meat came with lard on a side. No other vegetarian option. Breaded chicken and potato pancakes were ok(although baked potatoes tasted like frozen junk food). I requested the bill and I got charged for two sips despite the fact that I returned mine and my other friend forced himself to eat half of it. I asked middle aged blond waitress in Polish, if she could take it if the bill and she mentioned that there is no option to do it. As I already felt uncomfortable in front of my friends I did not want to start a scene. I paid for a soup and made deduction in a tip. I have worked over 10 years in hospitality including suburban bar and managed at 5 star hotel near Chicago stock exchange and even in the worst hole in the whole we took off the tab charges for food that obviously was returned due to bad product. I definitely will warned all my friends to stay away from Bacowka. The slim young waitress who actually was helping other tables was much friendly and helpful. Kudos to her but she...
