Went on a Saturday night for karaoke. The first round of songs were fine, but my friend never got a proper second turn after I went four times myself.
The second time my friend's 'turn' finally came up, DJ 'Wolfman' played a different patron's song, who was nice enough to let my friend sing with them, then SKIPPED MY FRIEND'S SONG when it came up. This was after other issues that came up in the night, including allowing people to backtrack after missing their turn, and even redoing people's turns when the recording messed up.
At this point in time I've sung three songs and ask the DJ if my friend could have a proper turn. He replies with 'I can't make any promises,' and ends the night playing two other patrons who have gone multiple times before him, and ends the night without my friend having their chosen second song.
There's definitely something wrong with how this DJ operates. My friend patiently waited their turn, conversing with other patrons, and even after I addressed the issue directly, the DJ didn't budge on giving my friend his proper turn. I don't think it is right for a DJ to assert a personal singer preference on an open mic program that should require professional neutrality, and reinforce a fair, turn-based system that caters to the patrons when their gear causes issues for the person's turn.
Everyone is there to have fun. For some, including my friend and myself, it's karaoke night. It would be a much more pleasant time if everyone was treated...
Read moreThe Hood Inn is an unassuming little place with big soul and great food. It will surprise you in a very positive way. This fine establishment is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy I-90 Tollway Barrington Rd exit with all of its hotel and locales in a nearby residential neighborhood. If you turn down Hassel Rd and follow the curb just a few hundred yards you'll see it on the left. It's in a strip mall right next to other highly rated local small businesses - just w brisk walk away from the main intersection. The place is a local staple, you will see a lot of the same faces when you show up more than once. The service is friendly and fast. The daily specials are a great value and the food is by far one of my favorite options, especially at late evening hours when your options dwindle. The menu items are priced fairly and everything I tried tasted great. Some recommendations would include wings which are very good and popular. Their sauces are flavorful, they carry some of the best ranch ever. I love the burgers, the onion rings... they put some love into them. I once tried Friday night special: fish and chips, and I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of my meal. Overall an inexpensive dive bar experience with gourmet food and a fun, diverse crowd. I'm glad to have stumbled over there a few times for...
Read moreWe used to come here maybe once month to enjoy karaoke night, but after these recent incidents I don't want to spend time here anymore. One instance involved my friend's birthday, and when we went there to celebrate it with him. We went to request a song for him, and waited patiently for an hour and a half for his song to come up, and it never did. When we approached the DJ, he was drunk and claimed we never made the request. Another incident has been more recent, and we made five different song requests. He didn't call up my friend, and as if to purposely add another slight, sang his own songs. One song, I would understand, but we realized at this point he was pushing our songs so he would never get to sing. These haven't been the only times we've been slighted by this DJ. I don't understand what we did to make him angry, except complain about him whenever he doesn't do his job in a professional manner, just like the above instances I explained. We just wanted to have a good time; we've never caused issues for anyone, and actually get very good reception from other customers when we sing. If management won't find another DJ that can be professional and cater to the crowd instead of trying to be in his own spotlight, then we'll find another establishment to...
