(Winter 2025) Since writing my last review of Omelette House Restaurant, I've tried a number of the new breakfast joints that have opened in and around the Schererville/Dyer/Crown Point/St. John area. While most of the aforementioned serve a decent meal, Omelette House remains my and my family's favorite. I don't know if it's the quality of the ingredients or the expertise of the kitchen staff, but the food at Omelette House is just better than the competition's. Remarkably, it also costs less.
(Winter 2024) I've been driving by this unassuming place for years, believing all the while that one breakfast joint is essentially the same as the next. I was wrong. Omelette House is one of those rare restaurants that alloys high-quality ingredients, skillful preparation, generous portions, attentive service, and reasonable prices. I had The Works omelette with hash-browns, my wife tried the Corned-Beef Hash Skillet. Both were excellent. Even the hash-browns--which most restaurants either undercook, over-grease, or serve with relative indifference--were uniformly crisp and tasty. To the subject of portions: notwithstanding my omelette being delicious and me being a big guy with a healthy appetite, I was able to finish only about one-third of the thing. Similarly, my wife loved her skillet, but managed to eat less-than a quarter of it. That's fine by us, however, as the aforementioned are going to make excellent dinners tonight and equally-excellent breakfasts tomorrow. Finally, the individual who took my order (on the telephone) was polite, enthusiastic, and thorough--as evinced by the fact my order was correct down to the last detail. If you're tired of paying through your teeth for tasteless, poorly-prepared food, try Omelette House. I'm...
Read moreSour oranges and bitter coffee is how I would describe my experience at this awful Omelette House Restaurant in Schererville, IN. The owner (old woman) freaked out and was very rude to my family and me. She made a big deal out of nothing (very unprofessional) and because of this bad experience, we will not go back. First of all, they give you a free sour orange that looked dirty, yuck. Then, the coffee (Java Breeze Coffee) did not taste good at all, not only did it taste bitter, but you can tell that they water it down. White Castle or even McDonald’s have better coffee than this place. I guess it is called Omelette House not coffee house, so what do you expect? The waitress (awful waitresses here) dropped my friend’s food all over the floor, they did remake it over again, but it didn’t taste that good and my friend just politely took it to go. My Swedish pancakes were ok, but nothing spectacular. This place is kind of expensive for what it is, I recommended that you don’t take your family to eat breakfast here and go someplace else. Overall, bad tasting food and uncomfortable atmosphere, we will not come back, you can keep your awful tasting coffee (maybe that is why you are bitter (owner)). P.S. Go to Round the Clock for the 4 by 4 breakfast, it is the best for the...
Read moreThe morning we went there it was storming horribly. I had my 84 yr old mother who can barely see or walk on one arm and my 3 year old grandson on the other. This happens to be a place my mom loves, I am new to it. My grandson wanted chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes came and they were overloaded with chips. When the waitress asked if I wanted new ones for him I replied, "no, he is 3 and doesn't eat much, I will cut around the chocolately parts and find edible pieces. We paid our bill, left our usual 20% tip and I proceeded to the bathroom to wash him up. I asked a waitress I passed if she could fill his glass a quarter full for him. When I returned to the table to get my mom there was another bill for $2.13 on the table for the chocolate milk. A) I didn't ask for chocolate, B) I asked only for a little bit. I only had $2 in bills so I proceeded to the car to walk out my mom and grandson, as I opened my car door the owner? manager? approached me with the bill saying I owe him .13 cents. Really? I know that and said I was going to get it,,,, but...you chase out regular customers (which my mom is) for .13 cents. Sorry, but I think that's bad business and you...
