I stopped here to have some lunch while I was getting an oil change at Fox Hyundai. Great little spot to grab a bite to eat…especially if you are waiting for car service or need to have lunch while “talking it out” about a new car purchase. So many dealers right around it. I had the Chicken Lemon Rice soup (my favorite soup at a coney place) and the Grilled Cheese BLT. Kasia was my server.
The CLR soup was really hot when it arrived so I had to wait a little to eat it but it was really really yummy and comforting. Would’ve liked it a smidge thicker in texture and a tad more chicken but that is nitpicking. It was very good.
I debated getting the Grilled Cheese BLT or the Strawberry Pecan Salad but I’m really glad I got the BLT. BLTs at diners…for me personally…have been pretty lackluster and basic. Yea they are BLTs but kinda boring ones. This one is NOT boring. Hearty, flavorful, and delicious. The bread was crispy, the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, the bacon had a nice semi-crunchy texture, and the grilled cheese and mayo just added the cherries on top. Really great BLT. If they offered pretzel bread I would be in heaven but that’s just me dreaming. 😂
My server, Kasia, was lovely. Efficient, sweet, and never let my water go dry…everything you want in a server 😂👍🏻 The atmosphere was a nice, gentle, diner buzz with fun music on in the background and multiple TVs for the latest news/sports/entertainment. The staff seemed to work like a well oiled machine with everyone helping out and laughing together.
I would definitely recommend! Thanks for the great lunch! Oh and that BLT is great fresh or cold from the...
Read moreThis was my first time back to Uptown Coney Island after a negative dining experience about three years ago. The server brought my menu and took my order promptly, but forgot my coffee--I had to ask another server to bring it. The omelette was well made and tasty, and the rye bread was good quality. The hash browns were slightly undercooked--they should be crispier. The music was uncomfortably loud. When the server was unable to get the volume lowered, I approached the older gentleman who I believe may be the owner. I asked politely if he would please turn the music down, and he said: "No. It is piped in. Sorry." As a former restaurant and nightclub manager I can tell you that management always does or should have control over the music volume. The younger manager/owner? at the cash register was much more helpful. He said I was the second customer in a few days that had complained about the music volume, and said he would get it taken care of going forward. That was a proper response. So overall: Good eggs and toast; mediocre hash browns, fresh coffee---but took 15 minutes to get; very friendly but inconsistent service, loud music detracting from dining atmosphere, one dismissive manager, and one very customer oriented, helpful manager. I am glad I gave this restaurant another try; however I prefer Alpha Coney up the street, which has excellent food, service, management,...
Read moreNice "little" diner. Seems more like an old truck stop. Everywhere you look, there's a TV.
The food was really good . But they give you MASSIVE amounts to justify the high prices.
But, the service is HORRIBLE!!!
I'm thinking our server might have been new? They weren't busy, but we waited for EVERYTHING.
Our food was sitting on the window, and we wanted it before it got cold. I couldn't get the attention of my server or the server that walked by me twice and pretended she didn't hear me, not even the manager. Who was looking right at me when I tried to get her attention.
Finally, our server came by and apologized for taking so long. I had to tell her that our food was ready. She mumbled something about "not finding her groove yet," then walked to the back and finished talking with her friends. Then, she good our food when she "got in the groove". And yes, it wasn't hot. It tasted good, but it was lukewarm and very greasy.
I tried to complain to the manager when I went up to pay, but she avoided me when she saw me...
