I’m torn about this one…

We learned about Habaneros from PBS’ ā€œCheck Pleaseā€ program, and I wanted to LOVE this place so bad. They have a great story and it’s a super cute family owned and operated neighborhood joint….

We went for dinner, and it was busy, which is always a good sign. There was even a fire truck parked outside, the local fire department was picking-up food to go, which we thought was really endearing.

Anyhow, I’ll start with the pros: -chips, salsa, guacamole + drinks were amazing. -the service was straight forward, no nonsense but kind and fast despite how busy they were. -the menu has lots of options including breakfast which is served all day, which is a nice touch. -and the tortillas were so good, I took the last one to go in the little parchment paper it was served in šŸ˜‚.

Now the cons: -I ordered the chili rellenos, and they tasted like dirty oil. They also were swimming in it, which was off putting. -the general consensus from the table was that the food was inconsistent, they (the restaurant) definitely have dishes they seem to be better at preparing. -the beans were watery to the point of being inedible -the drinks despite being tasty were inconsistent, which is nit picky but worth mentioning.

TL;DR - I ordered wrong. It’s a taco, Parrillada and nacho place and those at our table who had those types of dishes walked away feeling satisfied. Without a doubt I would try Habaneros again; however, I’d avoid the rellenos in favor of the carne asada… or something similar.

Overall it’s a great local business, and worth a trip. We heard they have a generous happy hour deal and I would love to stop by...

I ordered my first Habeneros food via Uber Eats while I was away from home. I had a suboptimal but not truly negative experience. The ordering process was easy. I was able to specify what I wanted and modify it to my tastes via the Uber Eats link to the restaurant The time for the delivery lengthened a bit but I expected a little offset. What I didn't expect was that half of my food would be missing. I had, oddly, ordered a breakfast burrito for the next day, but it became my dinner when it was the only thing that arrived, other than chips and condiments. I am happy to say that it was delicious. The tortilla chips were crisp and gently salted. The pico and guacamole were both fresh and tasty. I'm sure my enchiladas would have also been very good...but I did not receive them. I contacted the restaurant who was able to find my order and acknowledged that the enchiladas were not sent out. OK, stuff happens. I was a bit hangry but the breakfast burrito was good and shut down the mean ol' witch. My issue was that there was no contingency plan in place at the restaurant to ensure that the customers needs were met. The representative seemed very willing to help me, but none of the suggestions were workable for me. She did offer to make a note for my next order, but I'm visiting and that didn't work. I got the impression that a refund wasn't going to happen and no other delivery would be made. So that's the reason for the review. Pretty good food (what I had), very nice representative, but unclear policy about dissatisfied customers. 3 stars seems fair to me, but 4 given because the food I ate was good and the...

I don’t usually leave comments, but I have to. This was the worst experience in a restaurant I have ever had. This was on October 6, 2023. We were in Scottsdale, AZ on vacation. I had looked for a nice authentic Mexican food restaurant close to where we were staying. It showed this place as a 4.5 out of a 5 rating. I’m really still scratching my head as to who would of rated this place even a 1 or any higher. Ok now to my complaint, we walked in to see the cooking area was a open area that you could see, we sat down after ordering mixed fajitas for myself and my wife order some street tacos. As we sat there my wife was wondering how the health department hasn’t shut them down for all the uncovered food. They would serve rice in a cup smashed onto the plate. This was being handled by the cook taking a gloved hand that he continued to touch other item and utensils with, very dirty and unsanitary. When our food arrived, of course mine was hot, as it was a fajita on a hot cast plate. But my wife’s was stone cold. She was done and said she was going to get food poisoning from this place. She refused to eat hers. I eat a lot of my fajita, but it was not very good. We advised the waiter that the tacos were cold and she will not be eating them. I advised her that you really need to cover the rice and the cook need to not touch food like he is. And that the temperature for cooked food was way to cold for health regulations. Her solution was , we get the chips and sauce free. So $35 dollars a later on a unfit and unsanitary food we paid and walked out, vowed to never eat there again!!!!! Stay away, you will be sorry if you...

I used to be a regular at Habaneros back when I lived on this side of town, and revisiting felt like catching up with an old friend. While I don’t dine here as often now, the quality hasn’t skipped a beat. This time around, I tried the chilaquiles for the first time—bold, flavorful, and unexpectedly crave-worthy. I also got one ground beef taco, and it was everything a taco should be: crispy shell, savory filling, and just the right touch of spice. And the service? Truly wonderful. Friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home, even after all this time away. If you're craving comfort food with a punch of authenticity and warm hospitality, Habaneros still delivers. Definitely worth the detour.

We came by on a busy Saturday night after visiting family in the hospital nearby. The advertised hours of operation were a little confusing, but we were able to get a seat. We started with the guacamole and chips; nothing exciting, it was a bit bland and didn't appear freshly made. We ordered a variety of tacos: carne asada, blackened fish, Barbacoa, chicken, carnitas and chorizo - the consistent high vote at the table was the Barbacoa taco. All tacos had fresh toppings like cilantro, onion, cabbage and sauces. We added a side of rice that tasted a day old with flavor like old oil or lard?
