You definitely need to know what you're getting into before you go here.
The good: The location is nearby lots of places you probably already want to visit or live nearby. The food is absolutely delicious! If you dine in, they have a lot of patio space. (Though if you dine in during the summer, there are only about six small tables inside.)
The bad: The portions are very small versus the price. (Luckily, the taste makes up for it.) The parking may be an issue during non-summer, as it's a small, shared lot. The worst thing is probably the service, which will get its own paragraph with my recent experience.
I made an online order in the morning. I arrived early to pick it up around 6:10pm. When I was looking around for where to go to pick it up, the servers just kind of looked at me until I asked where I pick up an order - no automatic greeting when I walked in or asking how many in my party/if I was there for pick up. Two different servers took my name, went into the back, and told me my order wouldn't be ready until my pickup time 15-20 minutes. (Fine, because I was early, but weird since there were only 3 tables seated inside, which already had their food.) I sat down and waited. All the staff gathered at the bar next to where I was seated and proceeded to check Insta/text on their phones and gossip about fellow employees. One staff member even sat down at the table next to me, without even acknowledging me, while he was playing on his phone. I've worked in the service industry/owned service businesses, and phones should NEVER be out where customers can see unless it's necessary to do something on it for the customer - go in the back, outside, or somewhere away from view. My pickup time arrived, with no food. Other people had come in, gotten their pickups, and left, so maybe mine got delayed for some reason. The servers, including the ones who took my name, saw me sitting there, but nobody was updating me on what was happening. At a bare minimum, you let the client know if an issue pops up and apologize. Ten minutes AFTER my promised time, I had to ask one of the servers what's going on with my order, and they said it was in the oven. Why was it in the oven AFTER I was supposed to be picking it up, and AFTER they knew I had already been there for 30 min!?! Ten minutes after THAT, they brought my food out, told me to have a nice night, and walked away - still no explanation on the delay, no apology, no offer from a manager for a discount on a future meal or a comped app. That is NOT how you run a business. Especially when you've got more staff sitting around...
Read moreThe Valley of the Sun populace has spoken & anointed Il Bosco Pizza the #1 ranking as the best pie in an AZ Republic poll. No argument from me. I recently went to their E Becker location in Scottsdale, located just northwest of the Scottsdale Road & Shea intersection. It was prime time dining hour on a Saturday evening & I expected a lengthy wait by dropping in & not ordering my takeout ahead of time. Inside was full but the courtyard in front had open tables. Their misters were cranking so hard, I could've skipped my morning shower. A friendly server promptly took my order for the "ZA" wood fired pie. It was ready to go in only 10 minutes. A masterpiece crust with a light char. The pepperoni & spicy Italian sausage gave it some serious bite. I've never had a pie with Hatch chilies before & they had a carmelized tang. Check out the extensive menu for their diverse premium toppings. I'm from Michigan originally & grew up on Detroit style pizza from Buddy's, Louie's, & Shields. Been in Chi-town to devour Uno & other deep dish classics. I love them all & will definitely be returning soon to one of the Il Bosco locations to try some of their other classic combinations. Only about $20 for a medium sized pie of perfection. I'll be...
Read moreWe arrived on a Friday evening. We walked inside and were told we can sit anywhere we find a spot and there were a few tables for two near the front. We sat down and the waitress came over right away and took our drink order. We ordered two beers off their happy hour menu. We then noticed how wobbly the table was. The table was also incredibly weathered. So much so that it was peeling and has sharp points on it. They really need to either put covers on the tables, refinish them or just order new ones. In addition the chairs are metal and very uncomfortable. They have that waffle weave pattern so as I got up to go to the rest room, I found the pattern imprinted on my legs...sigh. The patio is really quaint and has nice outdoor lights outside. If it is a good weather day, this is definitely a great option.
We ordered a pizza and the chopped salad. The salad had Romaine, sopressata, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and was dressed with a balsamic reduction. It was really fresh and crisp. We would order it again. We also ordered the Joanna pizza. It is a red sauce pizza with spicy sausage, spicy pepperoni, mozzarella cheese. We really enjoyed it. We...
