This was our first time at The Herb Box and to say we were extremely disappointed is an understatement. To start the review on a good note, the food was fantastic. The steak salad, pork tenderloin, short ribs and rosemary chicken were something to write home about. But, that's where the good review ends. Let me preface by saying everyone in my party (4) have worked in the service industry so we are not unempathetic to a busy night, short staffed or things that may be out of the servers control.
With that said, there seemed to be 2 servers and a host. No bartender. I was very observant to the other tables and they all seemed to be waiting on something, missing something and the staff moving around with little to no urgency.
Two of us sat at 7pm and ordered drinks 5 minutes later while we waited for the remainder of our party. Our party arrived around 7:30 because they went to the Old Town location mistakenly... 25 minutes later the first two drinks ordered were not provided. The other two have now ordered drinks. The two who were late received their drinks first, then me and the last person the server had to re-ask what he ordered... assuming it has been 40 minutes at this point so she forgot.
The food was not dropped until 8:20pm and mind you, we ordered within 5-7 minutes after the remainder of the party joined us. I made the joke that they were hunting and preparing protein in the back which is what took so long. By nearing 8:55pm (restaurant closes at 9) the staff was cleaning up, closing down the restaurant and as we were leaving (9:05pm) turned the lights off by the bathroom/bakery and coffee area. It's wild to me that they were rushing us out when they were ready to leave however, we waited all night long for them.
Overall, the service was absolutely unacceptable. The experience was enough to make me never go again and normally good food can turn it all around but in this case, no. The drinks absolutely should've been comped and if I were the staff... I would've made sure I at least tried to ensure my guests...
Read moreIt saddens me to say this, as I’ve been here several times and recommended the location even more. But I’ve noticed an overall decline. This evening I went for dinner, arriving over an hour before closing time, and was greeted immediately by annoyance. The restaurant was nearly empty, and it seemed to bother the hostess that I was asking for a table for two. She checked her watch MULTIPLE times, and rolled her eyes. The experience only continued to become more uncomfortable as we had to watch them sweep the floors around us, loudly shake out their garbage bags as they took out the garbage and refilled new ones, close out the drawers, shut off the lights (including in the dessert counter before I even received my food to know if I’d want to top it off with a sweet treat or not), and other closing tasks. The hostess then proceeded to sit at the front bar and rest her head while she sat on her phone, visibly annoyed and waiting for us to finish and leave. My daughter was here from out of town, and to say I am embarrassed to have chosen this place to take her to is an understatement. We were uncomfortable and contemplating just taking our food and leaving the entire time. We finished up with still a half hour before closing, and weren’t even sent off with a “have a nice night” (it was only us, she wasn’t too busy, just on her phone still….). I do want to note, the waitress who assisted us was kind and helpful, but we just could not get over the horrible atmosphere created beyond that. The three stars for food is because my steak was not cooked as I ordered, and I was too worried we would further annoy the staff to even request to send it back for an adjustment. I am hopeful this will not be anyone else’s experience, and am so disappointed to say...
Read moreCoffee is served cold, when we told the server he brought us cold Coffee a 2nd time. When I requested syrup for my pancakes, the server didn't return, so I walked up to the counter and said excuse may I have some syrup for my pancakes: the manager "Natasha" dismissed me and told me to return to my table that someone would be right out with it. I replied no ma'am, I'll wait right here for it. She stormed off into the kitchen, I'm assuming to go get the syrup. The server returned to tell me they were all out of syrup. I said to the server: "In that case, here's my pancakes back, I don't want to have them without syrup. A few minutes later, Natasha returned to our table asking where my plate was because she had some honey for my pancakes because they were all out of syrup. When I explained, I didn't want honey with pancakes she was clearly annoyed as she locked eyes with me and asked if there was anything else I wanted instead of pancakes. I said no, that I was fine. She turned around and walked away. Although we weren't charged for the pancakes, Natasha didn't apologize until we paid the bill and were leaving the establishment. There must be three restaurants in every direction of the "The Herb Box." They're not the only game in town. Save yourself the poor experience and take your...
