This review is not a critique of the food but rather the abysmal customer service. On Sunday 11/9/20 we ordered takeout at 5:53 pm. We were quoted 20 minutes. At 6:15 I paid (and tipped) and was told my order was not ready. About 10 minutes later (30 minutes from the order time) I asked the hostess to check on my order and I was told they were waiting for one dinner and they yelled at the kitchen. Another 10 minutes later I told the owner that I was quoted 20 minutes but it had now been 40 minutes. He yelled at the hosted to let him know of these situations and told me to hold on. Five minutes later (45 minutes from the order time and 25 minutes after the quoted pick up time) the hostess handed my my bag and said "here you go." As I did not receive even one apology, I asked to speak to the owner again, and I told him that I got my order 45 minutes after we ordered it when they quoted me 20 minutes and I asked him if he thought that was OK. He said they were really busy. I asked him if he thought it was OK that I didn't get even a simple apology from the hostess or from him and he proceeded to TAKE MY FOOD FROM ME! I was SHOCKED! I said I already paid for it and he POINTED TO THE DOOR! I told him I deserved an apology and to give me my food and he finally gave it back.
All I wanted was an apology and the owner of a restaurant that caters to customers was not capable of doing such a simple gesture.
We were regular customers here but I will...
Read moreThe blandest Chinese food I've ever encountered. I went there twice, once for lunch and once for dinner, and both times the meal was bland and insipid. There is no taste. I had the chicken lo mein for lunch. The portion was generous, but there were none to little veggies and far too much oyster or soy sauce. That was dripping off the noodles. I started with an egg drop soup for dinner. A dish of wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce and mustard was served to me. A common presentation in low-cost Chinese restaurants. My dinner order took over 40 minutes to be taken by the server. I ordered bbq fried rice and General Tso's Chicken, which the menu specifies as leg meat. The egg drop soup was insipid, and the bbq fried rice had no vegetables and only small chunks of barbeque. The chicken from General Tso's was the worst. It was wet and squishy. There is no crunch at all. I tried to inform my waitress, but she was too preoccupied with putting on a show for the group in the room and ensuring that her tip was adequate. The proprietor strolled around the enormous group, telling everyone how great his restaurant was. If this is what Scottsdale residents consider great eating in Chinese cuisine at exorbitant costs, then they are tasteless.
People need to try George Yang's Cuisine on 16th street and even Canton Dragon. Food is incredible and great prices for a generous portion.
STAY AWAY FROM JADE PALACE...
Read moreNutshell... Jade Palace (8876 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85255) is as good as any Chinese restaurant I've eaten at in San Francisco or NYC.
Details... Whenever I hear of a solid Chinese restaurant, I tend to order 2 items; Dumplings & Beef Lo Mein. Reason why, both take skill.
When it comes to dumplings, everything matters, the skin should be tender, and filling should be seasoned correctly and have a delicate flavor. Jade not only met my criteria, but with the sauces served, awesome, spot on.
Most Chinese restaurants completely fail at Beef Lo Mein. Typically the beef is chewy & rubbery, with little to no flavor. Reason this happens is the beef is frozen (Culinary Sin!) and/or it is simmered to death in a wok. This though does represent the Beef Lo Mein I enjoyed last evening. The beef was tender, cooked somewhere between medium & medium well, perfect. The binding sauce was top notch with hints of soy, garlic & ginger, just perfect. My hats off to that Kitchen Staff, not a shoemaker in the bunch, you guys are pros, kudos.
Probobly the best Chinese I've had in years. If you're in the area, go. Be sure to say hi to Mike, who maybe the friendliest, outgoing and generous restaurant professional...
