Well, I think my history is unique with the restaurant. Even though it's focused on the Thomas Rd location, it goes back decades and involves the Hayden Rd location that has been relocated to Thomas Rd, as well as a now abandoned Tempe location. As a child, my neighbors invited me to join a family outing to the Hayden Rd location. I was given a burger and the first bite was disastrous. Pure gristle. Had to throw it in the trash when the next bite was the same. From that time forward, Whataburger was off limits for me. Many years later, a friend had a breakdown with her car and requested that I tow her car home. She had limped into a Whataburger parking lot on Rural Rd in Tempe. To be courteous, she bought me some food while she was waiting. I hadn't been to a Whataburger since the gristle burger decades before. I had no reason to expect a similar experience, but it happened again! All gristle, but I certainly didn't take a second bite. I'd never heard of anything else that ironically horrible. Well, it's a few decades later and I have a friend who enjoys dining at Whataburger, so I've been going myself for Whatawings. So far, so good. I still can't bring myself to try to eat a hamburger there. I'm going to try the onion rings soon. The cinnamon roll and apple pie are quite good. I really am tempted to ask for a patty melt, but I don't want to make a scene if it's like the other burgers I've had. Wendy's around the corner has always been dandy, but the employees can't seem to properly prepare the orders and I have to use the drive thru only due to my health failing. I've been having salads from Wendy's, but Whataburger has a Cobb salad I want to try and it may replace the Wendy's selection. My friend suggested the Salad and Go nearby, but I've seen the drive thru and I think my truck is too long to maneuver there. Whataburger drive thru is suitable, but not as good as Wendy's. Others nearby are both good and bad. McDonald's is okay for my pickup truck, but Taco Bell is totally unsafe to try. As I write this, I'm getting set for a visit to Whataburger. No burger...
Read moreIâm not one to leave reviews often, but there is a wonderful woman that works the drive thru here late nights and I wanted to share my experiences.
This location is in my neighborhood so I visit fairly often, back in February in the early hours of the morning I got the news my mother had passed away unexpectedly. Unable to get on a flight until a few hours later, I decided to clear my head and drove to this location for a soda. I waited in the drive thru and was greeted by the most friendly woman who was as chipper as can be for it being 1AM. I believe she is a manager but not too sure. She was very talkative and asked me if I was okay as my eyes were puffy from crying. I danced around the topic and said I was okay. She gave me my soda for free and wished me a good evening. Not the usual experience from almost fast food chains youâd visit.
Tonight, I made the same trip from a couple blocks over for a soda, this time with my puppy. As we got to the window there was the same chipper woman I had encountered a couple months ago. She immediately greeted my dog, even knew the breed right away! (corgi) she then offered us a little cone of ice cream for my pup and once again gave me a soda for free and wished me a good evening as I offered to pay.
I highly doubt this woman remembered me, but her kindness and humility have truly touched my heart through these small gestures. This establishment is lucky to have such a kind hearted gem on their team. The world needs more people with her...
Read moreFirst off: The people that work here, are better than amazing. They go above and beyond, and I just really wanted to take a minute to give them props, for that. Kind, courteous, fast and on Point! We are visiting, from Oregon, and I saw that Whatqburger is close by. I have always, always wanted to try âWhatABurgerâ and man, it was soooo good :)
Thanks to all the employees, as they are what made it a great experience. The whole meal was on point. Between 3 of us, everyone is raving about how good it was. We each got a shake: vanilla, Chocolate, and Dr Pepper. All so good, they taste like old fashioned shakes.
Dr Pepper was my choice, and it was delicious and unique. A hint of Dr P- and thatâs what made it so good- not too much flavoring to be over the top. One of my friends got a Spicy Chicken combo, one got a Bacon and cheese combo, and I got a double green Chile- always my go to if you have Chiles to put on it I want it! I added lettuce, and onions, so, so good.
Itâs a lotta food too! Patties are nice and thin and tasty- fries are shoe string, and their ranch tastes homemade itâs not all nasty like other food spots. You should go- like NOW :) Thanks Whataburger- Please come to Oregon, where you can live Happy and make yummy food on the West Coast. I wouldnât hate that one bit. XoX until we meet...
