In my many trips to Phoenix, I have most frequently lodged at the Courtyard Scottsdale Old Town. The main reason for returning is the cleanliness, something the property has held important years before the pandemic and the location in the Scottsdale Old Town District. There is easy access to the 101 Loop, Tempe, Phoenix proper and the airport. Restaurants, shops, art museums, the stadium and city parks are steps away but it is not in the thick of activity, resulting in some quiet around the building in late hours. The pool heats up nicely on hot days and there is a covered whirlpool spa as well an exercise room. Lots of chaise lounges and seating is available around the pool and newly noticed is a cabana.
As a Titanium, no suite upgrade was offered and I ended up in the same room that I had 2 years ago with a balcony with a view of the palm trees and the mountains in Papago park just over the rooftops of newly constructed apartments. On my first visit to the hotel years ago, I was impressed with the efforts to keep things clean, a sanitizing wipe for the remote and glassware that was removed from the room for washing in a dishwasher and clean carpets. With pandemic protocols, disposable cups were in the room but there were still disinfecting wipes provided and the remote was bagged. Outdoor furniture appeared to be cleaned during full room cleaning as there was no large build up of dust. I opted to have housekeeping only as requested and when a towel exchange was asked for late in the day, it was noted that the room was made up and thoroughly cleaned as opposed to just the towel exchange. Stairways can be a free stair master exercise and they also were pristine.
Staff, from the front desk, housekeeping, Bistro, building maintenance, to the pool attendants were always cordial and when pluming repairs resulted in noise during the day, a complimentary drink was provided in the Bistro.
Surface lot and garage parking is available and there always has been sufficient space during every stay. Someday a stay in one of the resorts in Scottsdale will be in order when plans permit more time to be spent at the property where we will stay. But consistent quality, friendly staff and a clean property keeps this hotel on the go to list of favourites in the...
Read moreMy husband and I were in town for a wedding and decided to stay here. We stayed 2 nights. Feedback:
(1) Decent size room and bed was comfortable. However, there is only one small sink with no counter space and it was dimly lit. It made the process of getting ready quite a challenge especially with 2 people in the room. The full length mirror was also located inside the closet door next to the small sink area so makes for heavy traffic when there is more than 1 person trying to get dressed (and I will reiterate the dim lighting too).
(2) On check out day, housekeeping knocked and rattled on our door at 7:00AM! Note that check out was not until 11am so it was quite a shock to be bothered at that early hour.
(3) A/C in our room kept shutting off even if the temperature set by us was not met. We had to turn the unit on and off to reactivate the AC; hence, we woke up several times in the middle of the night because the room was warm (even though we had the thermostat set at 65)..
(4) Small fridge in our room did not work. I pressed the "on" button inside the fridge but it did not work.
(5) There is one staff who is scheduled at the front desk in the mornings that has very poor customer service skills. I think she might be a manager but she was very snarky when we asked for a recommendation to a locally owned brunch restaurant. Honestly, she made us feel like we were bothering her!
(6) There was hair on the bath tub that belonged to the previous guest (we had not yet used the tub...
I had one extremely poorly managed incident. I was on crutches due to an injury during my 3 night stay. One night, I returned to my room and discovered my key didn't work. I called the front desk with my cell phone. The front desk person told me that they had made a mistake, that my valid credit card was no longer in the system and I would have to come back down to the desk with the credit card.
I explained I was on crutches and asked if they could send someone to take the credit card from me and the room to let me in so I could sit. They could process & return the credit card while I rested in my room. The request was refused because he insisted that the policy was that he couldn't let someone into the room without a valid card on file even though he admitted that it what their mistake that they had deleted it.
The alternative he offered was to send someone to pick up the credit card while I stood waiting outside my door. He could not tell me how long that would take because they were short staffed and he 'hoped' it wouldn't be more than 15 minutes before someone would even show up. Maybe another 10 minutes to go downstairs, swipe the card and come back.
I wound up making the trip to the front desk on crutches to make the exchange myself... Make a mistake, then refuse to bend the rules and force your guest to go out of his way to make up for your mistake.
Not a good reflection...
