Sorry no pictures. I was so excited with all the birds did not think of it. Before I start, I want to give a big thank you to AZ Exotic Bird Rescue for what this place does every day and trying their best to not leave a bird homeless. It is very hard, expensive, time consuming, and a lot of patience to take care of one bird or parrot. So just, imagine 10 or more wow! I am glad that there is a place like Az Bird Rescue willing to take homeless birds. Places like this do not make tons of money and most of the time they are pulling from their own pocket. So please please donate what you can. Parrots live for 20+ years and most are not so lucky to have a forever home. Some people buy parrots and not know what they got into until it is too late (too loud do not know how to train). Owners have life issue where they have to give up the bird or get ill and pass away. If it were not for this place, where would these parrots and birds go? My experience: I went to AZ Exotic Birds looking for a certain species of parrot. I go by the adopt before you decide to buy tactic for all animals I take home. I wanted to see their beautiful Yellow ringneck, which by the way is available for adoption. When I got in, they welcomed me right away and asked what they could help me with. They brought out the ringneck for me. What a great bird she still needs some work and more loving but will come around. The employees sorry horrible with remembering names were all awesome very knowledgeable. If you are thinking about getting a bird stop here first and hangout, it will help and maybe you will find your next feathered friend. All the cages were clean and the ones that needed cleaning were getting ready for cleaning while I was there. All the birds I saw were in great condition and happy. They do provide Nail clipping and Boarding if needed. I really recommend people that read this to visit this place even if you do not own a bird and just want something to do. They have baggies with Almonds that you can purchase right there to give to the bird. Remember the birds appreciate the attention also.
AZ Exotic Bird Rescue YOU ROCK!! Keep doing what...
Read moreI first came here during the pandemic to purchase a harness & leash for my cockatiel and ended up also purchasing a face mask for covid that were on display for sale for $10. Mandy (the owner/caretaker) made them herself and were super cute. There was only one harness & leash set left in size petite and I wasnât sure if it was the right size and didnât know how to properly put it on my bird but Mandy took the time to show me how to put it on, which was confusing to me because I didnât know the first thing about how to do it because I was a new bird parent altogether and was just barely learning about cockatiels but Mandy was super nice and patient with me. I ended up having her clip Picachuâs wings & trim his nails and all she asked for was a donation of whatever I could afford & didnât charge me anything for the service. She called me about 6 weeks later as a courtesy to remind me Picachu was due for another grooming which I set an appointment with her for the following week. From then on I brought Picachu in regularly to get him groomed & we both adore Mandy. She is very knowledgable about all bird species and I have learned so much from her. Shortly after, I hit a rough spot in life & wasnât able to properly care for Picachu & a 2nd cockatiel I had acquired as a friend fir Picachu named Chibi, because I suddenly had to move. I called Mandy & asked if she could take them temporarily until I get back on my feet because I didnât want to surrender them, I just needed temporary housing for them and she took them in and I donât know what I wouldâve done without her, she literally was a godsend for me and my loving cockatiels and I am forever grateful for her help during our time of need and everything she had taught me about birds in general. I highly recommend her for grooming & boarding services and also for adopting or god forbid you have to surrender your feathered friend, Arizona Exotic Bird Rescue truly is there to come to your rescue and Mandy...
Read moreIâd like to say (after being surprised by the negative reviews here) that I used to volunteer here from 2018-2020. I know for a FACT, as Iâd go in the mornings and help do this, that those cages are cleaned every single day (new liners put at the bottom w/ old thrown out), fresh water, fresh food, etc. every single day. Birds DO make messes throughout the day, so I just want to point out that those birds ARE cared for properly. The other volunteers as well as the owners are VERY knowledgeable and dedicated to these birds, and thoroughly educate and vet any potential adopters/will not adopt out if itâs not a good fit. This isnât a bird boutique, it is a RESCUE, and many of those birds have been through hell and back- Mandy and the rest of the staff ensure that the birds never have to go back into their terrible situations again. I personally helped Mandy with an intake of an Amazon named Buster who had clearly been abused by his owner (his beak was snapped in HALF and bleeding) and Mandy was so kind and gentle to him and he got a wonderful home. I had considered adopting myself, however I was not in the right place to take on a parrot at that time. Maybe her personality isnât for everyone, but she is a GOOD person who is dedicated to those birds, as are the rest of the staff. Finally, for those complaining about the adoption fees, this RESCUE (not store) has to front all the medical expenses on top of everything else for these birds, as they often come in abused and stressed (feathers being plucked out take forever to grow back, if at all!), asking $600-$800 for the bird AND cage is not unreasonable - you will easily spend 3x as much or more depending on the bird buying from a store or breeder outright. This place is wonderful, and I hope to return to volunteer again. Sadly, I no longer live in that area. God bless!
