Went for lunch on a Sunday and I gotta say, it's not worth the money. On top of that there are several health code violations that they seem to not really care about fixing. Let's dive into it:
Firstly when we were sat at our table it took over 10 minutes for our server to greet us, while not the biggest deal in the world, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy and the servers seemed overwhelmed (either from lack of adequate staffing or poor training). After, we ordered a pitcher of beer and the sampler appetizer. When the server brought out the beer she also gave us glasses to drink them out of, we notice one of the glasses was chipped (health code violation) and requested a new one be brought. The server told us that a lot of their dinner ware was in "rough shape" (if they're that aware of the condition of their equipment they should have fixed it by now). Again no big deal but then we realized how much of the glasses and plates were in unacceptable condition. The replacement glass was also chipped and the plates brought out were all chipped as well. (Not good). After ordering our meals (the flounder with fried and Cole slaw, Cajun boil, and Pontchartrain with Cole slaw and side salad with balsamic dressing) we were brought the side salad out first and it had ranch instead of balsamic and the greens were rotten/very low quality so didn't even touch it. The Cajun boil was overcooked in its entirety. The shrimp was okay the sausage was not seasoned well and the potatoes were not great. The crab was okay. As for the flounder that thing and more sauce than flounder and flounder was overcooked same with the Pontchartrain. The pitcher our beer came in looked like they played kick ball with it during their breaks, absolutely destroyed.
By far and away the best thing out of our $150 bill was the chips and queso that came with our sampler appetizer. Very disappointing.
Bathroom is gross and overall their equipment could be maintained much better.
Will not be coming back to this establishment ever again. Complete waste of money when you're paying for a restaurant that could care less about providing even the bare minimum service level you could possibly offer. It's a shame because their location is...
Read moreWorst restaurant experience I've had, maybe ever. Came into day around 3:40pm to grab an afternoon snack, was considering dinner. A sign says "seat yourself". The restaurant was not real busy and looked adequate staffed. We waited over 10 minutes before notifying the manager no one had greeted us. A server came over then and took our drink order and we decided to order chips and queso. Then the manager came and asked If we were ready to order, and I told him we ordered. Obviously no communication going on between coworkers. Then a second server immediately came over to take our order, and we explained we had already ordered again. She explained she would be then taking the rest of our order. We decided to leave it with the queso as I was becoming frustrated with poor service.
They were then pretty prompt brining over our drinks and queso, but we had to ask for napkins. No small plates or silverware were offered. The queso is good and usually the reason we come here. I'm pretty patient, but by now- I've decided I can't wait to leave as the poor service has ruined the whole experience.( Pretty day, time dining by the water.) To make matters worse , I then accidentally dropped my water glass and the drink was spilled all over the table, Ice and water running everywhere. The server noticed, and said not to worry but instead of bringing us napkins or another drink. She walked off and stopped by 3 other tables, both indoors and outdoors. I had to hunt down beverage napkins, and clean up my spill (which I didn't mind) but the lack of attention from the entire staff was ridiculous. They could not have cared less that we were there. We then asked for a to go container and the check. The manager comped the bill, missing the entire point in how to service guests. We weren't there just for food, we wanted to enjoy the water and weather- May have even ordered more drinks or dessert, or even dinner for later to go. Will skip this place next time- so many good water front places to Visit...
Read moreWe visited Sam’s Boat yesterday evening with some friends and it was hands down the worst food service experience I’ve had in my 43-year old life. I’m never one to complain or send food back either. We were sat on the patio upon request and waited about 10 minutes before we were even approached by a waiter. We finally asked another waiter that was walking by and he grabbed our waitress from inside. Finally got to put our order in for an appetizer and drinks. After waiting 20 minutes for our sampler platter appetizer, one of the waiters spilled the whole thing on our table when trying to sit it down. Then proceeded to give us a roll of napkins, so that we could clean it up ourselves. Didn’t offer a single bit of assistance. At this point, we still didn’t even have our drinks that we originally ordered, so I asked the waitress about those. A few minutes later, they show up and believe it or not, she spilled the whole tray of drinks on our table. She apologized and left us once again to clean up the mess on our own. The couple eating at the table next to us couldn’t believe it. At this point, I went inside to talk to the manager. He apologized, but never even came out to our table. On top of all this, they forgot to send other stuff to the kitchen that we ordered, so we never got those items. We packed up, went to The Flying Dutchman down the street for dinner and had a far superior experience. A wait staff that was professional, prompt in their service, and actually cares about their customers. Not to mention the food was excellent. Don’t waste your time at Sam’s Boat. It’s extremely clear why the wait staff doesn’t care, when the management doesn’t either. Leadership starts at the top and they don’t have it. Everybody makes mistakes, but the way it was handled was horrendous. Go...
