Apparently this is a Somali owned coffee shop. I couldn't be more pleased. First, the barista was super helpful and cheerful. He answered our multiple questions happily.
I tried the Somali coffee... it's basically like a Chai tea made with coffee. We also got the Americano - we suggest an extra shot as it's a little weak with just one.
We also tried some of the pastries. We got the little meat pies (think triangle-shaped, fried empanadas, or egg roles). We also got a deep fried "donut". It too was triangle shaped.
The meat pies were called Sambus (it was the first one on the list), the donut was the one that mentioned eggs, called Bur.
The little meat pies were incredible. I got the beef and the fish. They're lightly spicy but spiced well... if that makes sense. Great flavor with a little kick.
The donut was lightly sweet... not overly. Think "dinner roll meets donut". It is a perfect compliment to the Somali coffee.
Overall it was a great experience and if I ever have the chance I'd go again.
Oh, and one of the best parts was that our entire order...
Read moreI've been staying at the Motel 6 down the street and, luckily, happened to serendipitously stop by Five Star Coffee. Turns out, they’re a Somali-run enterprise making what is probably the best coffee in all of Seattle. Seriously, Starbucks could learn a thing or two from them.
In particular, I want to shout out Abdullahi. The guy is a boss and a legend. Their Somali 🇸🇴 Spice Latte? Absolutely phenomenal. It hits you with just the right amount of spiciness at the end of every sip, making it super delicious, super tasty. Honestly, it puts the Italians to shame; and that’s coming from an D.O.C.G. Italian 🇮🇹 from the old country. Bold statement, I might get my passport revoked for it, but I stand by it! 😉
I reckon Somali coffee is going to be the new wave for coffee worldwide. Five Star Coffee, you’re doing it right. Keep it up, guys. I’ll be recommending this spot to everyone I know. Seattle, America, the world; this is where the best coffee is at. See you...
Read moreYummy coffee and smoothies, friendly owners, and a cute store. It is located right next to motel 6. Walking or driving take a right as you leave the parking lot. Walk 1 minute and there it is! There is one shaded outdoor table and chair but after covid this place will comfortably fit several tables. I'm not exactly recommending Motel 6 as a traveling experience. The hotel gets the job done especially if you are flying in and out. This little coffee shop improved my stay as a good coffee gets my day going. I didn't think much about it because I have been in South Korea where coffe is just around the corner. Moreover the place is run by 3 friendly businesses partners so you also support small business...
