Blue Bird makes mostly awesome ice cream (a few flop flavors, but mostly good). They also make really tasty soda, and by virtue, awesome floats.
They're a little pricey, but at least they use really high-quality ingredients.
If you're in the area, this is really the best option for ice cream or sweets. They also make dessert beers, if that's your thing.
Here's the downside: the service. It's really a mixed bag. It's either a young hipster who (perhaps rightfully so) hates their job, doesn't pack pints properly, and gives you comically small scoops for $6.50; or it's the nicest, bestest, overworked employee ever.
They really need to have more people working at the counter on busy days (especially when it's warm). Having a line out the door isn't always a sign of great business -- it's sometimes a sign that the owner didn't want to have two people working, and some poor sap is stressing out, trying to take multiple orders at once.
And would you guys please make your waffle cones during the mornings like most ice cream shops?
Hire more people and train them how to pack pints and serve up scoops. That's all you need to do, really. You shouldn't have to wait ten minutes to get an ice cream cone. And when you do, it should be huge, delicious, and completely awesome. And sometimes it really is.
But sometimes, it isn't. And you need to fix that.
They make great ice cream, though. So at least give them a shot. The chocolate flavors are all absurdly good. Definitely get the Theo...
Read moreOn my visit I got a split scoop (half and half) of snickerdoodle and theo chocolate chunk and it was absolutely delicious. The business itself was a little hard to find because the logo is painted on brick and at night there is really not much light near the logo, but it is right next to the coffee shop. The ice cream had the perfect texture and consistency that was smooth and not to sweet., The retro decor of the room was pretty tasteful addition also, there were some old milk jugs around, an old radio with all their merch on it and there POS system was a combo of a tablet on an old metal cash register. Around the top left part of the room was also a shelf full of old board games if you're looking for something to do while there with friends. This little business is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for some cool interesting ice cream flavors, interesting sodas or...
Read moreWe wanted ice cream or something sweet after dinner and our car took us here on a Friday night. So glad we did. Bluebird has been on my radar for a while now and we just got around to trying some. It's tucked next to a Greek restaurant next door. They do small batches of listed flavors. I think I counted 10 flavors. Some typical flavors, some not so conventional. I'm sure this place gets pretty packed and busy in the warmer months. So late winter/early spring is the best time to come give them a try. They (IMO) are one of the local ice cream heavyweights around town. The only draw back is the parking, there is residential parking and not enough business parking. Maybe when the weather gets nicer you can park a little further away and work up an appetite for some yummy...
