First time diner at Chaiyo. I had high hopes and I'd been craving Thai food for awhile. I've been eating Thai food for decades. A little longer than Chaiyo has been open (1993, iirc.) I hadn't had it since forever. I was ready!
They were fairly busy with to go orders, it was dinner time on the Saturday before Mother's Day, and the place slowly filled as I ate. I know it's a neighborhood favorite and some friends swear it's the best they've had.
I didn't have that experience. The service was average, friendly and accommodating, but maybe slightly awkward. It might be because I wasn't blown away. I wasn't asked if I wanted a drink. That was the only flaw in service.
I've had my eye on the stuffed chicken wings for over a year and today was the day. They were BIG. They look great. Crunchy exterior. First bite was hot. The rest was not. In fact, it may have been under temp. And it did not have any discernable flavor, it was actually bland. That was not something I was prepared for. Underwhelmed.
I was hoping the next dish would redeem.
Next dish was the Coriander Beef. Nuh-uh. No redemption. Nary a coriander seed was in evidence. No Cilantro either, to be sure. The spice level (5 stars) was sufficient, which is actually unusual. But, this might as well have been Mongolian Beef, it was swimming in a sweet dark sauce that wasn't bad. It would greatly have improved with coriander seeds, or even a splash of powder, I'm sure. It was so saucy it was begging for rice.
Rice you must order separately. Unknown to me since I'm so used to it being included
I'm willing to wager they do the popular dishes like summer rolls, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and curries just fine. I wanted something out of the ordinary. Lesson learned.
I really wanted to like it. When I return, because I will, I'll be sure to update...
Read moreI've come here several times because the food was delicious, but the service was pretty bad. It was not as good as I expected from the very first day, but I decided to give them another try because I actually liked the food here. However, nothing changed even though they claimed they did a better job. I've always tipped them 10% (I know it's not a recommended tipping rate but because I'm an international student with low budget) no matter how the service was. But this one time (definitely my last time here!!), because the service still hasn't changed at all from the first time I was here (they impolitely dropped the plate on my table, showed attitude- frowned and sighed- after taking my orders or boxing up my food for to-go ..), I thought I've had enough so I left a tip less than 10% (and idk if it's intentional or not where the "tip" section on my reciept was circle). After I left, a waitress actually chased after me, "demanding" for more tips, which I explained clearly to her that I wasn't happy with the service and that wasn't the first time. She continued defending for herself saying she did a good job. She even told us that she has been telling other waitress to keep an eye on us from the beginning because we didn't tip much from the last time, and that was just very rude!!! Anyway, it's been such an unpleasant experience. After so many times, despite the good food, thanks for giving me more reasons to stop coming here again! Tipping should be subjective and voluntary based on how good...
Read moreWe recently dined at Chaiyo Thai in Seattle, and I have to say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the tone for the evening. The decor is charming with traditional Thai elements that make you feel like you've stepped into a little corner of Thailand.
The menu offers a great variety of classic Thai dishes, and everything we ordered was spot on. The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of tanginess and sweetness, and the Drunken Noodles had a nice spicy kick that was addictive. The portions are generous, which is always a plus.
One standout dish was the Green Curry – creamy, rich, and bursting with flavors. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were fresh and cooked just right. For appetizers, the fresh spring rolls were a hit, light and refreshing with a tasty peanut sauce on the side.
Service was excellent – our server was attentive and knowledgeable, happy to make recommendations and answer any questions we had about the dishes. The food came out quickly, and everything was served hot and fresh.
Overall, Chaiyo Thai is a gem in Seattle for anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine. It's reasonably priced, and the quality of food and service makes it a spot worth visiting again and again. If you’re in the area and in the mood for Thai, definitely give...
