Jebena Cafe isn't just a casual restaurant, it's an experience for your taste buds! We dove headfirst into their "meat combination 2" and emerged utterly delighted. Imagine a vast landscape of flavor – succulent meats, slow-cooked lentils, vibrant salads, and a touch of cooling cheese. Each bite resulted in an explosion of spices that danced on the tongue.
But the true star of the show was injera, the ingenious sour fermented flatbread. Unlike any bread you've encountered before, injera's spongy texture and subtle tang were the perfect accompaniment to scoop up every delicious bite. The owner mentioned that all their food is cooked fresh DAILY! Forget forks and knives, this is a joyful, hands-on dining experience! Though, the owner was happy to provide them if desired.
And let's not forget the wonderful service. The owner, with genuine warmth, became our guide through this culinary adventure. They patiently explained each dish, its unique flavors, and the perfect way to enjoy it with injera. It felt like being welcomed into their home for a delightful Ethiopian feast.
Not to mention, this feast was quite affordable compared to typical Seattle fare. This feast, with sodas and an appetizer came to just over $30.
If you're looking for an escape from the ordinary, a place where taste buds awaken and new favorites are discovered, then Jebena Cafe is a must-visit. It's a vibrant celebration of Ethiopian cuisine, served with a generous helping of hospitality. Highly, highly...
Read moreJebena is a warm and cozy place with a lovely owner and great food. As most reviews have mentioned, the owner is warm and welcoming, and she even checked on us regularly for the quality of the food and any questions we had.
We ordered the Meat Combination 2 and the amount of food was more than enough for 2 hungry people. The dish comes with 9 items on an Injera, and you get 2 extra on the side. The Injera is perfect and not overly sour and the combination of meat, lentils, cheese and veggies goes great with it.
We also ordered samosas, coffee and a mango juice. The Samosas had a nice and crispy cover and tasty filling. It comes with a green sauce/chutney which pairs well with it. I love cappuccino, so I wanted to try it here as they roast their own beans. The aroma of the coffee was lovely and I'm dying to have another cup again soon. I also ended up purchasing a bag of their medium roast beans.
Overall, if you're thinking of having Ethiopian, I can't recommend this...
Read moreThis was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I am Ethiopian and I have been to dozens of Ethiopian restaurants around the world — this was easily the one with the food that tasted the worst (we had the vegetarian platter FYI.) 1) it was inauthentic — it lacked the typical flavor associated with shiro, misir, etc..., it was watery, and it had a really strange aftertaste. 2) When the owner (I presume, the woman with short hair) asked us about our food, I told her that it was inauthentic (in Amharic — so that other patrons won’t hear and she will feel less attacked), but she proceeded to cut me off, laugh in our face, and walk off. I was pretty stunned as I’ve never been treated this way as a customer, and especially because she asked for feedback so this wasn’t unsolicited. Needless to say I will never come back again and I encourage everyone to choose one of the 3 other great Ethio restaurants around Jebena for a...
