Having grown up in West Seattle it is surprising I have never eaten at the Chelan Cafe! I finally got the chance when I joined my parents and my sister's family there on Valentine's Day for lunch. I was a tad worried because I have celiac and it can be a challenge to eat out safely. Our waiter Erica went above and beyond to make sure my veggie omelet was safe and delicious. I loved the atmosphere there with all the Seattle themed art and it is so bright and inviting with all the windows. Erica was knowledgeable, kind and very good at her job. I was also impressed with Arnie and Chendo. They were very kind and attentive. We were given a kind goodbye from either the manager or owner - I wish I would have had time to find that out before we left. I have driven by the Chelan Cafe for so many years and am so glad I now know why it is a West Seattle institution! I highly recommend checking them out.

Well my friends, here's a great place to have a bite; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We stopped in for breakfast, and the ladies were inviting and held great breakfast conversations. Didn't really expect much but I found a nice little corner to have a quality breakfast and a chance to be silly in the morning. The traffic wasn't bad but this place is located near the industrial area of the Port of Seattle so there's some big trucks in the morning. I still really enjoy the restaurant, nice job Chelan Cafe. Oh and by the way this place has no ties to Lake Chelan WA. I wish I love Lake Chelan.

Came here after going to Loretta's in S. Park, waiting 25 minutes, totally being ignored ! Chelan,s had food in front of me within 10 minutes. On another note; I've been coming to this establishment since 1968. The bar was STEELWORKERS & LONGSHOREMEN. I WORKED @ BETHLEHEM STEEL/SEATTLE STEEL for 27 years. The bar people here now treat me like dirt. My sons both worked there when they were in high school. My then wife, Karen also worked there. Years later she would come to the EBB TIDE, to work on her laptop, we were separated then. So I know a little bit about it's history.

So let's start with the positive - the food here is pretty good and the prices are exceptionally reasonable - that's the reason I'm giving in 2, almost 3 stars instead of 1. I worked in the service industry for a long time and service, customer service, efficiency, friendliness are all really important to me and when they are lacking, the food can be 5 stars, but the experience is ruined because I know any restaurant can do better and they are choosing not to. Today the issue was a 40 minute minute ticket time to just get our main plates and another 5-7 minutes for the toast. On top of that our server didn't really seem to care that it was taking as long as it was and really could not understand why anyone would be frustrated by such a log wait for food. This is especially frustrating considering that the restaurant is still socially distanced and is not even full nor did it appear they were short of staff. I also noticed a gentleman who came in about 10 minutes after we had ordered our food, was sat at the counter and was served and finished his meal before we were even served. Like I said, I used to work in the service industry and I would even like to open a restaurant one day, so yes I know how hard it is, but a 40 minute ticket time, an unempathetic service staff and guests being cooked for and served ahead of guests who ordered first is just unacceptable to me. All in all if you are looking for good food, good breakfast food, at a reasonable price and really could care less about the level of service or how long it takes to get your food, then this is a good bet. On the other hand, if you are in a hurry or poor service and ticket management is important for you, you might want to choose...

Passed this place hundreds of times and I finally had a chance to try it. It took 5 minutes for us to be seated on a rowdy Saturday. It was busy but not a full house. We ordered the chicken fried steak and the corned beef hash (two things we can’t readily make at home). We were served and I loved the big portions. Btw the decor is awesome! The food itself was average at best. Then the problem came when we were done with our food and waiting for a server to ask about to go boxes. We waited 25 minutes without anyone checking in on us, so we could pay and leave. When my partner finally got up to go ask, he was ignored completely while in front 4 workers. When he was able to ask someone we were told to wait. We waited for another 10 minutes. Our server arrived to grab our card and gave us to go boxes. We had to cancel some plans due to the delay in service. The food was average, decor was great, and service left something to be desired.

There are too many amazing restaurants in the area to pretend that this is anything more than mediocre. I personally won’t be returning...

Just watched a waitress use her dirty bare hands to pick up a kids Mickey Mouse pancake and reposition it on the place. After spraying whipped cream on the pancake, she wiped her hands on her dirty pants. Then she proceeded to grab a handful of gummy bears from a jar on the counter with her now dirty hands, contaminating the entire jar. Next, she placed those gummi bears, one by one from the palm of her hand, all over the top of the pancake, into the whipped cream. Disgusting dirty hands and contaminated gummi bears all over a kid's food? I guess that's the norm at Chelan Cafe.

Edit: A few minutes later I watched another waiter handle dirty cash money in the register. Then he walked to the line and picked up multiple plates of food and dropped them off to customers. Next, the same waiter grabbed a butter scoop (with his dirty hands) that every other waiter uses and contaminated that as well. Then he went back to the cash register and handled more cash. If you want to get food borne illness, eat at...
