I've been eating here weekly for about two years, and there are a few reasons why this place has my dollars.
Update, they've added something like "chicken fingers" to the menu, so if you like that kind of side order similar to french fries, you can order that here. And they've had bubble tea here for a few years. In fact, this may be the only place you can get Thai bubble tea in the immediate area around MLK and the Rainier Avenue intersection...
First, everything is very affordable. You can get chicken katsu in a nice size serving along with rice, a salad, and soup for about $10.50ish. Most of their dishes are in the $6.50 to $9 range. Oh, yeah, they also have Thai bubble tea if you're looking for a quick sweet drink fix in the area.
Second, they do a pretty good job with the diverse menu they have.I saw one negative review on another site, and it made me want to laugh. LL Teriyaki is a fast food restaurant. If you want to compare a fast food restaurant with some expensive Yuppie/Yappie sushi bar restaurant, you're making an unfair comparison. Fast food restaurants have to balance preparing some food ahead of time with on-the-spot requests, then provide the meal promptly without sacrificing quality. That's not easy to do, but they pull it off somehow.
Third, the management treats everyone respectfully and even kindly. This restaurant is in the multicultural Rainier Valley, and all kinds of people feel comfortable coming in here to order their food. The public school students in this area love this place, and you can see them here during lunch or after school. Some high school students even pre-order their food by phone, then pick them up during lunch before rushing back to campus. As you know, young people are picky about their food. If they didn't like it, they wouldn't eat it, but LL Teriyaki is popular with the area's students.
Fourth, these people work hard and honestly, from morning till evening. The current management/staff are immigrants from Vietnam, and they're building on the American dream with this small business entrepreneurship. McDonald's has enough of your money. Come and support a small & family business for once. These are the kinds of businesses we should be supporting with our money. This is a fast food place, but there are enough tables and chairs if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal with hot tea. Big screen tv and WIFI. They also do catering....
Read moreBefore I get into my horrible experience of being denied service I want to inform I was a semi regular at this place for convenience and price. Low quality meat, and decent portions but good if your on a budget which being a high-school teacher I often was looking for the closest location and lowest prices.
Last week I waiting in line for over 20 minutes out the door in the rain be pushed and shoved by the childern surrounding me. When I got up to order I had my card ready knew exactly what I wanted and being a semi regular thought they may already have an idea of what I wanted.
Instead of a quick transation I WAS DENIED SURVICE due to "the childern in line have been waiting too long for their food" and that I should have order over the phone before coming. I was the only adult/person turned away. I only try to order one item and always spend more than most of the childern, so was very frustrated and confused. I walked out quietly to let them get on with bussiness as my "meal was going to take too long" (chicken yakasoba) and I did not want to argue infront of my childern.
I would like to reccomaned Rainier Teriyaki just one block away which while does, have higher prices, the food is 10 times better, it's less crowded, higher quality and likely won't waist your whole lunch by turning away a hungry & ready to pay...
Read moreThis was a great lunch, I walked in and was greeted immediately. At first, it seemed a little cold but noticed the hustle and bustle they were doing around the shop.
I asked for my order(half chicken half beef, double meat over yakisoba) and was met with a "yes we can do it for you". That was a game changer because I wasn't in the best mood when I walked in.
The meal was prepared quickly but while I was waiting I was offered refreshments...awesome attentiveness.
I received my meal, got home, and at first thought, it was a little off in taste but realized that it just wasn't as salty and drowning in sauce. My veggies were still crisp and added a touch of fulfillment, not needing to overindulge.
So for a fast lunch that won't leave you wanting stop into...
