Alright folks this place has always been a local favorite!
Looking for that Superb & Hearty, Down to Earth Phó that will warm your body, mind and soul?
The local Rainier Ave Gem has quality ingredients that does it right and they treat their customers right even during such hard and trying times.
However recently they have also been the victims of such hardship as a cash only business they used to have an atm inside.
A couple of weeks ago these folks attempting to live the American dream had their restaurant broken into. Why? For this ATM. Completely tore apart their front entrance in the process.
It's very unfortunate these folks are having to deal with that as many of the customers who came here utilized this atm. As many don't carry cash these days unless they need to.
So when you come in bring a $20 bill with ya if you have built up the quite the appetite. Well for under $15 you can get a meal such as this! Personally this was a large Beef no.9
One of the few options with tripe and oh how tripe speaks to my heart! If you never had it? And don't want to really think the texture at first try it in tow with a few noodles or a some bean sprouts.
Speaking of beans sprouts these are some of the most fresh and salacious sprouts around. And that is saying something as I am NOT a big veggie person. I won't even put onions on my burgers.
Anyways folks you're probably wondering at this point where I am going now. And that my fellow hungry travelers is to the quality of the meat.
The beef here is of good stock, derived from quality cuts, savory just as it is robust and succulent.
A tip. For. When you get a Togo order though heat up. Your broth via micro wave for min or In a pot for a few min basically till. You see start to it bubble.
In the mean time Separate the meat you get and get the unwrap the uncooked portion. Separating it at the bottom of the bowl. Use the lime they give you and squeeze the juice over it.
At this point the broth should be at peak temperature. Get a Towel or hot pad and Pour it INTO the bowl SLOWLY.
Wait a min before adding the rest of. Your ingredients. Meats/noodles/sprouts etc.
This will allow the beef to cook and the temperature to stay high. As soon as you add the noodles & sprouts it will cool down the broth rapidly.
Add your sauces next, grab that towel, slam in a pair of sticks and spoon in the dish and dig for treasure Me Mateys!
TLDR:
Moral of the story?
This place has been around for a while and has always been here for the people. Even through these hard times they prove they are a gem of Rainier Ave! Consistently great food for a good price, that's very filling, served by a staff that cares.
It's cash only and no longer has an ATM.
Fair winds and following seas, May your quest for noms be ever fulfilling! Leonidas~Captain of the...
Read morePho Bac is a community staple in this neighborhood. We locals have been eating here since the 80’s and the food stays amazing, hot, fresh, and flavorful as ever.
Listen, if you come to a hole-in-the-wall pho place, you have to understand what you’re getting yourself into. Don’t come here if you can’t handle people who mainly speak languages other than English and have different standards for table manners. That’s literally the heart of pho places in South Seattle - it’s authentic, family run (meaning aunties and uncles and cousins who don’t speak English fluently help wait tables - imagine how challenging that feels to them, and they navigate it anyway so YOU can have a good bowl of pho), and a genuine pho experience. Go to Olive Garden or McDonalds if you want a zero character experience and leave this place for the rest of us - we will keep them well frequented and hopefully in business for another 40+ years.
This location was recently renovated (we thought it closed and are SO HAPPY it was just temporary), and the bathrooms and walls, etc are new. They also now accept cards instead of just cash for payment, yay! It’s even easier to eat here now. :)
So if you’re a true pho connoisseur looking for that sweet, delicate umami broth that warms your heart, tastes like healing itself, and lightly fills your stomach with good portions and all the usual fixin’s, come to Pho Bac. They have the famous Flinstones rib pho and will even sell you a rib on the side for just a few bucks. People also love the donuts and Vietnamese coffee that will give you momentary hope for world peace while simultaneously jumpstarting your heart. They also serve complementary hot tea. So many things to love!! And I really, really...
Read moreThis was a horrible experience for my family that just visited Washington. The interior seems nice and clean, but don’t get tricked! When me and my family got greeted into the restaurant, she pointed at a table that seems like someone was already at the table, and so my husband pointed at a different table that had a random water bottle at the table, (which probably meant they didn’t clean up the area beforehand) and they let us sit there for some odd reason. When we called the waiter over to take our order she did not seem interested. Usually restaurants serve out water before our meals which we expected from this restaurant, but we had to ask for water after the meal was given. When we asked for water the waiter looked confused, she called over someone that seems like they work at the restaurants, and we had to asked them. When our food arrived it all seem normal, we split up this piece of bread that was suppose to be eaten with soups, I don’t know if we got a bad batch but we got MOLD in our piece of bread that we would have not seen if we split it, and the women seems like she did not want to give us a new piece of bread. The waitress said that she did not see it (the mold) which is...
