Coming from Vancouver I have pretty high standards for sushi. There are several restaurants in my city offering very very good sushi at a reasonable (for sushi) price. Nishino’s sushi was quite good but not at all outstanding. If I had money to burn I might have been happy with the food. But I could enjoy the same or better sushi for half the price. Maybe not in Seattle though.
Our server was not good. He seemed to struggle to grasp the items on the menu and had to double check our order, having gotten confused about what we had asked for. He took away from our experience and by his manner just didn’t suit a sushi restaurant purporting to be authentically Japanese.
The tablecloth was not clean and I was surprised to find that the chopsticks were not only disposable but extremely cheap. Surely they can afford the cost and trouble of real chopsticks. It just seems like this restaurant cuts corners every which way, with poorly trained staff, flimsy chopsticks, and laziness with washing tablecloths. It really turns me off and makes me feel like a rube to go to a place like that.
Also my friend’s Uni was not fresh. Perhaps they shouldn’t have offered it since it was not fresh: it smelled and tasted off.
Overall an unremarkable experience and I would...

I went here a couple times in the last year on special occasions and had very very nice dinners. It’s pricy but you feel like you’re getting quality ingredients to justify the price and can have a pretty great higher end dining experience.
Got nishino as takeout yesterday, but found that while the prices are the same, the portion sizes and quality is significantly degraded. The 35$ sushi set came with bottom grade cuts of fish. They used a ton of wasabi, presumably to try to mask the quality. And honestly the salmon piece I had is one of the worst I’ve ever had from a reputable sushi restaurant.
Very very disappointed with the experience- especially because I was excited to support a restaurant that I really like. I cannot recommend you get takeout here and won’t be doing it again.
For what it’s worth, I really do wish you guys the best. I’m sure it’s a really tough time in the restaurant industry. And I would still return here to dine in when things have returned to normal. But I feel that you pulled a bait and switch with the quality of your food for takeout - as it was not the quality I’ve come to expect...
Read moreDon’t get me wrong the fish is good and fresh here the sushi bar is pretty awesome, however the omakase experience is horrible. It is not your sushi omakase experience that you would expect, even if you site at the sushi bar like we did. No interaction with the sushi chef. It is basically a seven course sample experience and the quality of the cooked dishes from the kitchen is slow and poor quality :(. Especially the salmon salad dish which is greasy and taste more like an Italian salad than one you would find in a high end Japanese restaurant. Just disappointing!!! For 70 dollars per person, the sushi portion only consist of 3 nigiri and 2 pieces of roll. They tasted pretty good but I was expecting so much more. For 140 dollars, we would have gotten so much more good stuff if we just ordered from the sushi bar directly instead of ordering the omakase. It seems like this omakase menu is designed for fooling people who don’t know much about Japanese food and omakase experience. Like I said in the beginning good sushi bar but the omakase experience is very very...
