Single Hill Commons — Restaurant in Seattle

I had very high expectations of this place, given that 1) I really enjoy Single Hill beers, especially their west coast IPAs and BA stouts/strong ales; and 2) I loved my visit to their Yakima taproom last summer. Sadly, I found little to appreciate at this place.

The interior is nice but, displayed outside as you walk in, "no flights or small pours; beer was not meant to be served in 4 oz pours". This is pretentious bullshit. Beer is clearly served and enjoyed in such amounts in many places -- including almost every other brewery in Ballard. Why dictate the size that beer is "meant" to be served in? Strike #1. The Yakima tasting room doesn't institute this rule -- it has flights. So, some smartass at this tasting room has felt the need to implement this nonsense and turn away would-be customers who are doing a beer crawl and wanting to sample on smaller pours.

Strike #2: smallest pour is 9 oz pours, so there's little chance of sampling a bunch of things.

Strike #3: $7 for 9 oz pours of many fairly standard beers.

Strike #4: all the IPAs/pale ales on tap when I visited were hazies; no west coasts. I sampled a couple of the hazies and they were not made well -- chalky, muddled, plenty of hopburn.

Strike #5: no dogs allowed, and they don't even have any outside seating, so if you have a dog, you're out of luck.

I definitely will not be back here unless they change most of the above. There are plenty of other places in Ballard with better policies and better beer. Don't waste...

If you haven’t been, you’ve gotta check this place out. I love this gem. I went for the first time tonight, but have been to the Single Hill in Yakima plenty of times. I’m so happy they opened a spot in Seattle, and also have wine from Yakima for purchase too! One of the only spots where I can find a truly good Hazy Pale Ale. Lastly, I went on a Monday and there was trivia! It was an intimate setting with a great trivia host that kept the place laughing! Definitely...

Single Hill is here!! Yakima is laid back fantastic but you can't always get there...! SH makes so many IPAs, and now often outstanding ones! This will be a must stop for fresh hop season Sep-Oct every year! So looking forward to it this year. Hey Seattle, SH gave the fresh hop master class in 2023. They were 2nd to Holy Mtn ONLY in 2024. Expect big things every year from them...
