I have had breakfast at Spruce cafe several times, thinking that maybe it would be better than the last. But no, it is terribly mismanaged. I will explain the positives and the negatives. It is way overpriced. They play pop music very loud. The waiter could hardly hear my order the last time I was there. I think the music is what the staff wants rather than what the customers want. The orange juice is NOT fresh squeezed—and it is very expensive. The coffee (I drink cafe lattes) is okay, but nothing special. The space is rather cluttered with equipment and various stored items if you take a close look. That’s not such a big deal really, but it just goes to show you that they don’t make an effort, and furthermore makes you wonder what their kitchen (behind closed doors) is like. The service has been miserable every time. This was mostly due to mistakes and inattentiveness. I ordered CRISP bacon. It arrived RARE. I reminded the waiter that I wanted it crisp, and asked him to ask the chef to cook it longer. After some time, a woman emerged from the kitchen with an angered expression and basically threw the plate of burned bacon on my table. I had already finished eating the other breakfast items. The waiter told me that the cook put the bacon in a pizza oven. Another time I ordered the French toast with butter instead of whipped cream. The French toast arrived cold and the butter which was individual pats wrapped in foil was frozen solid. I tried to thaw the butter by placing them around my coffee cup and asked the server to have my French toast warmed up. It ended up not being a very satisfying solution. The eggs Benedict was pretty good except that the English muffins were tiny and not toasted, resulting in sogginess. The corned beef hash had a nice flavor, but the chunks of potatoes and beef were way too big and should have been more bite-sized.

Randomly found this little gem passing by! What a cute little place. Loved the ambiance- very sweet, local, friendly and authentic. Super nice and welcoming personnel, which brings in the homey and sweet vibes and make experience super relaxed and enjoyable. A lot of cool food options you can choose from. Loved the food- "smoked salmon Benedict" is something, and this place have at least 3 options of those!!! With ham or with the fish(salmon), you can definitely find something. Overall everything was delicious and super pretty. Great side of potatoes, could eat them for days! Also, coffees were especially cool. Great cup to start a day. Initially we came in only for those, but everything looked so tasty and smelled so good, that we stayed for a whole meal! Definitely advising this place to everyone!!!!!! It's pretty light and nice atmosphere, and luckily for us had empty spots when we walked in. Prices are affordable and environment is cute. Portions are good for sharing)

I’d intended to walk down to Ludi’s but didn’t feel like it so I tried the Spruce Café in the hotel. I ended up ordering one of my favorite dishes … Chicken and Waffle ($21) and coffee ($4.75). This was a very interesting take on this dish … the chicken came as a string of six pieces of battered, fried chicken sitting on two (easy over) eggs, atop a Belgian-style waffle. A dusting of powdered sugar over the chicken and a small container of maple syrup completed the dish. I asked my server to request the kitchen make the waffle extra crispy as the heat from the chicken and eggs softens the middle of the waffle. Alas, it didn’t come that way so I scarfed down the chicken and eggs so I could eat a somewhat crispy waffle. My meal was okay but could have been better. $34.41, including 20% tip and credit card surcharge.

I was so disappointed in this. Went in for a quick breakfast, got 2 coffees, breakfast sandwich, and a pastry. $40, which wasn't a big deal at first, until we tasted the food and got a horrible service.

The barista asked us where we were going to sit. We asked her if the area in the room behind the bar was good, she said yes. We sat down. The waiter approached us to tell us that section was closed. No big deal. We moved to the section more forward towards the coffee bar. The waiter came back and told us that people don't usually eat in, and these tables are only for those who checked in through the front. What is the barista for? Why did they tell us we could sit wherever we wanted. We didn't move and just finished our food at this point. Bad communication between the baristas and the waiter.

The food was so blend. The pastry was not fresh. The sandwich was barely held together by the cheese alone. No flavor. Coffee was horrible too, and we aren't even any kind of coffee connoisseurs. At this point, Starbucks coffee tasted better in comparison. We didn't finish any of the food or drinks and went elsewhere because we felt not satisfied.

Very expensive, very bland and not fresh food,...
