This Seattle Hotel Is Absolutely Stunning 😭 A Must-Stay for Life

This was my first stay at this property at the corner of Pine and 8th Avenue. It’s not a large hotel, there is a small lobby, a self-service convenience store, and a restaurant / bar in one corner of the ground floor with two names, Spruce Café during the day and Chan Seattle at night. Two elevators serve the 11 floors comprised of 146 rooms and 2 suites. It’s a basic hotel, valet parking, no pool but there is a small exercise room and free WiFi. For our purpose, it was perfect. I had a corner room on the 7th floor overlooking Pine towards the water. It was a nice size, with a dresser hiding a coffee maker and ice bucket on the left and a refrigerator on the right. Above the dresser was a wall-mounted TV. To the left of the window was a desk and chair and to its left was an occasional chair. The bathroom is off the right past the entrance, comprising a glass-walled shower with a fixed head, a separate water closet, a small vanity and to its left, a full-sized tub. All in all, a nice bathroom. The only thing missing (for me) was a shower wand. The bar didn’t open early and closed early so I ended up buying bottles of Botanist gin and a can of Pelligrino flavored water and having drinks in my room on two afternoons / evenings. The price of the 1.5oz bottles was surprisingly reasonable for a hotel ($7.50ea). Service by the staff was professional and I had no issues (other than limited bar hours) during my stay. For the price, I’d stay here again.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Thiago, Tyler, and Jennifer were wondering and top notch customer service!!!!! Beautiful modern lobby, very comfortable seating. We checked in very early with Tyler but our room wasn't ready. Dropped off our luggage with Jennifer and explored the area for 3 hours before returning to access our room. We learned internet was down in the area and the staff was having difficulty accessing the system. Thiago at the front desk setup his mobile hotspot to gain access on a laptop and was wonderful at finding an available room to allow us to check in early. Jennifer had a gentleman bring our luggage to our room. She was very welcoming and accommodating and really made the delay a positive experience. The room was very clean and the beds were incredibly comfortable. I slept so well and wished I could take the pillows home with me! We visited the gym only to refill our water jugs but it appears to be an adequate space for a workout. The building is very secure, requiring a key card on all floors and hotel restrooms. Perfect location for a 7-11 min walk to the monorail, train, and pier. The cafe attached to the hotel is good, but a little pricey for breakfast. The hotel reserved a $12/pp shuttle to the cruise pier was a very comfortable suburban just for us 3.

The representative in office by the name of Jennifer who I did not find to be very knowledgeable! I had issues with being charged/hold for my full stay before the end of my stay! They say it’s just a temporary hold, but they hold the entire stay including incidentals on your card! Prior to checking in I was advised that we would be able to use 2 separate cards! This information was provided by their reservation team! Financially, it would’ve been better on me because the credit card I had only had a limited amount so the remainder would’ve needed to be placed on my debit card, we did the early check-in, but it does not do any good to do that so please don’t waste your time or have your card held for your full stay ahead of time because you won’t get checked in early! Also, Jennifer gave us a hard time on paying with two separate cards, one for incidentals, and the remainder for our stay! Blaming the fact that I booked on Expedia, but they make you run your card right there so they have full control. She did not explain this to make any sense and it’s possible she did not even know so I could’ve respected it more for her just to say she does not know and here’s the policy end then to go around in circles and make me feel as if it’s my fault that I’m confused! I continue to stress that I do not like these type of surprises. Communication is important to me!!So once I determined that I would have to go ahead and just put everything on my debit card and have a large hold of almost $800 during my trip, which impacted the finances I could use during my trip, Jennifer assured us that the room still was not ready, but she will put us on an expedited waiting list and she would call us and she blamed that they cannot rush, housekeeping! We decided to go have breakfast (it was still morning time)and take a quick view of the city while we waited on her call. Well, she never called us so when we returned to the hotel, she had left for the day and we had to re-explain the situation to a new rep who was kind, got our bags and keys and explained our room would not be cleaned because of the days we would stay, but unfortunately, on day 2 it was cleaned w/ all of our belongings still out! We would have put our belongings away for security if we knew the room would be cleaned! That rep apologized again saying she did not realize what floor we were on. checking out, Jennifer happened to be there so I questioned why we never received a call or why communication was not at least provided to the next rep and she had no clear explanation as to why she did not keep her word, housekeeping was absolutely amazing during our stay. I caught them and they replaced towels and provided us everything we needed quickly! She then tried to turn it on me to say “Wow you really don’t like surprises” even though this whole issue was more relating to poor communication on the hotels end!!! Nobody likes surprises especially if it negatively impacts you. I will say at the end Jennifer finally took some accountability, Long story short people just need you to be direct, communicate clearly, take ownership immediately, and show upfront empathy! Otherwise the stay was decent, our room was clean, the hotel restaurant for breakfast and dinner were nice but super expensive especially the dinner! I feel that the hotel should have coupons or complimentary offers for their guest! Otherwise, you will have to walk to other places to find food and snacks. One thing I will say is we came down one day for coffee and the lady said she just closed it up. Since the hotel is limited to snacks, water or anything convenient for their guests, I feel as if the coffee station should remain open for their guest and include the small snacks. Even if there was a section for purchase or a vending machine. Let’s just say we did a lot of walking while we were visiting! The location was nice because it was right in the heart of downtown. We expected to do some walking just not as...

This was the second time we’ve visited this hotel as an international visitor (aussie aussie aussie). The first was for our honeymoon last year, and so we thought while it was aptly placed near Ruth’s Chris and other restaurants it would be a pleasant experience once more.

However, this turned out to be an incorrect assumption on our part. We found management to be distasteful, while following in their “professional” steps as needed we found ourselves on the receiving end of an accusation that in most parts of the world would result in termination from employment if substantiated properly.

This felt especially egregious as this is our first anniversary (of many to come). While the front desk had proven to be useful as they were last year (even recognized again by one of the members) management left us very little recourse for action after having extended our stay resulting in us frantically looking for another location to accommodate us.

While it’s normal to feel stressed in this kind of situation an overwhelming sense of dread settled in as we became more distraught with the fact that they called less than half an hour away from the time in which we would have needed to collect our belongings to avoid a temporary hold on our card (nothing like losing access to 400 or so dollars for several business days that was earmarked for travel expenses).

We found ourselves having to split ways momentarily so that my partner could attend an event that had been scheduled in advance and couldn’t be rescheduled while I frantically made my way back to the hotel to collect our belongings.

Upon inquiring more to find out what had happened as I was informed there was a noise complaint against us (never had that happen anywhere we’ve stayed) I was met with indifference and instead escorted by the management and another member of staff and watched like a hawk as I collected our belongings hastily. To say this was an unpleasant experience is.. an understatement to say the least. I would advise you to think twice about potentially staying here until management has addressed the blatant oversight that a single false statement about another’s character can result in their expulsion from the facility.

How ever this surely isn’t enough to dissuade some visitors so here’s an overview of the experience:

Concierge and front desk: Solid 5/5 they’re awesome, and extremely accommodating.

Room: 2/5. It’s a room, you have a bed and pillows. The pillows are passable and the sheets are decent.

Bathroom / Toiletries: 1/5 Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash barely lather and prove to be poor resulting in frizzy hair that isn’t moisturized properly no matter how much you use of it. The towels are also weirdly stiff. Like they’ve been bleached one time too many, and are uncomfortable to make use of when drying yourself. Bring your own towels, shampoo and conditioner with you, and definitely body wash.

Booking experience: I was able to book a room.. though it wasn’t similar to the one that I booked last year. The bathroom was lacking, particularly the tub, far too small for an adult man to fit in let alone a man and a woman.

At the end of the day, all we can say is that we were extremely displeased with this stay, and the events that proceeded with it, especially my wife as she had to make such an arduous flight to get here for our special occasion. Australians do not go to this hotel!! –...

Rude staff. Asian guest. My husband and I went down from our room and passed by the lobby. We said good morning to two front desk staff (who did not seem busy at the moment at all - they were chatting and laughing at that time). The male staff looked at us and managed a wave but the female staff member didn't respond. She simply paused from telling her story, kept her eyes straight ahead towards the male staff then resumed her story as the male finished greeting us.

A second encounter happened when I was waiting in the lobby for my husband who picked up our car rental. I ran directly into the same female staff member at the front desk. we made eye made eye contact. I nodded to acknowledge her since a smile wouldn't have been visible under my mask. She looked away immediately and walked right past me. She proceeded back to the front desk where the male staff member was and began talking (loudly) about how they're happy with how the US has been progressing with vaccinations but the same can't be said about other countries. She then mentioned specific countries from Asia and how the US should do something about having people from countries like that come to the states.

I understand the concern with pandemic and her ideas on how to prevent its spread probably have a lot of sense. We are all entitled to our opinions on the matter. But there's probably a better time and place for someone who works in the HOSPITALITY industry to (loudly) say things like that instead of doing so right at the front desk of a hotel, within an earshot of someone who could be from the very country she is talking about. I am a US citizen and have been vaccinated. But there is no way for that female staff member to know that before making those comments - nor does it matter if she did know because this is still inappropriate.

There have been very sad news lately about Asian discrimination in this country. My husband and I were hesitant to make this trip at all but did so because of the strong Asian community in Seattle and how previous trips have always been pleasant. So to say that the experience at this hotel was disappointing, is an understatement. My husband and I are very well travelled people (pre-pandemic). And I have to say we've had experiences with staff who are 100 times more courteous, welcoming and professional in small town bed and breakfasts than in this hotel.

To end the story of our encounter with the female staff member... she exited the lobby before my husband could pick me up. I watched her walk out and say a very enthusiastic good morning to a Caucasian guest who she...
