Highlights: Residence Inn setup so you have some provided items that even some extended stay properties do not - full plateware, silverware, knives, glassware, a kitchen towel and washcloth, full sized refrigerator-freezer featuring ice machine, electric stovetop and a countertop microwave - convection oven combo. (yes, that last thing was new to me but are apparently common in places like RVs).
Great space including a sofa-bed (we didn't use the bed) with a lounger and a 2 person dining table. Great work station/desk. I had to remote work for most of our stay and was extremely comfortable and the "free" wi-fi option was fine for my needs (including one video group meeting). I really liked the Paul Mitchell toiletries (Tea Tree).
Quiet side of the hotel for us (our room faced the alley, an office building, and a local apartment/condo building). There is construction adjacent with the convention center expansion and another new office building being built.
Good self-service breakfast buffet with a variety of options, some of which were there everyday, others were a bit of a changing rotation of surprises. There were two hot bars that served the same food to assist with guest circulation. I do wish they provided coffee later through the day rather than only with breakfast. Some days there was real silverware and napkins, other days these seemed to be unavailable with disposable plastic sets taking their place.
Nice parking level with plenty of spaces when we visited. Tight turn into the hotel street (Terry) and check in but then once you know the drill very easy in-out of the garage. Note, it is downtown so the parking fee is high ($45 self park, includes Seattle parking taxes).
Tradeoffs: Housekeeping - I believe it is supposed to be provided every 3-4 days now if you are staying for longer than that. We chose not to have it so I can't say for sure how having them run the dishwasher, check the amenities, and such would have been. I felt the room needed a more thorough vacuum and wipe down. There were some things that looked like dried sugar (maybe from a child's hands) on the closet doorknob and coffee pot. After time a few other things that would be caught in the more in-depth cleaning rotation procedures stuck out (potato chip stuck in window dressing, oily dust stuck around HVAC system).
Air circulation - I got really really dry from the hotel's passive ventilation system. I drank a lot of fluids to try to compensate but definitely wished I could open a window or a 'fresh air valve' like old tall hotels sometimes had. I seemed to have a bit of an allergic reaction to everything. The climate was very uneven at this time, which I think contributed (spring flowers blooming, a lot of swings in temperature and humidity). I usually improved away from the room, though.
Key card - they cut off your keys about 15-20 minutes before check out time. This caused my partner anxiety and required a visit to the front desk as we weren't yet finished moving our belongings down to the car. The elevators also stop working. This seems like an odd thing to do, rather than having them good through say 1 hour after check out time.
TV - something was wrong with the Internet component of our TV so the Showtime app would not load. My partner also had YouTube freeze on first use, though it worked later. In a Marriott property we stayed in recently, HBO Go was available. This property's website says that HBO is offered, but it was not on our set. The other odd thing is that they pick up KBTC for the PBS affiliate, who are sort of the 'secondary' PBS station in this market. A ot of things one might normally view on PBS are not scheduled, though they do still have daytime children's programming. (KCTS 9 is the market primary PBS station). Cable mix included all the news perspectives, sports (including the now closed NBC SN), business, and a selection of entertainment channels but not Bravo (Top...
Read moreThis is a fairly new modern/contemporary hotel perfectly located at the edge of downtown Seattle and the neighborhoods of Lake Union, Capital Hill, and First Hill. Breakfast is included in your stay. There's a variety of offerings; scrambled eggs as well as scrambled egg whites, waffles (make your own), fruit, yogurt, oatmeal (cooked plain and packaged), juices, coffee, tea, cereal, breakfast bars, and other miscellaneous items. They allow you to take away items from breakfast. Paper bags and utensils are available. Very nice touch!
The lobby is large, allowing an opportunity to socialize and/or work. They have a small market with items for sale. Wifi was great in both my room and the public space. I had no issues streaming. If you're parking at the hotel, they have an underground garage. Once you arrive at the hotel, park your car by the entrance before you enter the garage. You need to check-in and obtain your room key to enter the garage. Once you're parked, the elevator will take you directly to your assigned floor.
Our room was clean and cozy. It felt smaller than other Residence Inn studios I've stayed in before. Our room faced a construction site (expansion of the convention center). The rooms are insulated well. While I was in the room during the day, I did hear some muffled background noise when I didn't have the TV on. With the TV on, I didn't hear anything. More important, there wasn't any construction at night, so my sleep wasn't affected.
I had some issues with Housekeeping. My stay was 8 nights. After a few days, we decided to request the room to be cleaned. I did this by asking the housekeeper. He made note of my room number. When we returned later that afternoon, the room wasn't cleaned. The following day, I requested a cleaning again, via the Marriott Bonvoy app. When we returned that afternoon, the room wasn't cleaned. I went down to the front desk to make an inquiry. They said my room was scheduled for cleaning the following day. At that point, I asked for fresh towels and sheets. No problem...I could do this myself. My room was serviced as promised the following day.
Throughout my stay, I noticed other guests leaving bags of trash by the trash can next to the elevators. The trash would sit there for most of the day. I was surprised the hotel didn't routinely pick up trash. It didn't look good. Towards the end of my stay, I requested another cleaning at the front desk. The response I received was, "the hotel is really busy and we're not sure if we can get to your room." Yes, I was checking out the following day, however, it had been two days since my last cleaning. During COVID, I don't expect my room to be serviced daily. If it wasn't for the housekeeping issues, I would've rated this a 5-star review. I'm hoping hotel management can use this information and make improvements.
I'd like to end this review on a positive note. Staff at the front desk and breakfast were friendly and welcoming. I used the health club almost daily. It's located on the second floor. They have a variety of cardio, strength training, and free weight equipment. There's also Swiss balls, stretch pad, and water. Next to the health club is self-service laundry. Easy to use. Payment is by credit card only. They don't have laundry soap for purchase, so you'll need to go out and purchase it. On the same floor is an outdoor area with chairs, tables, and sofa. What a nice perk to have access to when the weather is nice.
Despite my issues with Housekeeping, I would stay here again based on the location, newer build,...
Read moreI can honestly say that I will never stay in this Residence Inn ever again. Let me tell you about why in detail. Sadly, my first negative feedback at a hotel, especially a Marriott.
Day 1: Get in on Monday. Great check in. Water provided and beautifully cleaned room. The service agent assisted in signing my partner in who was coming on Wednesday.
Day 2 (When it all goes down hill): getting ready for work and need to be there in an hour. I call to get toothpaste. Didn’t receive the toothpaste until 45min later. Called front desk and agent responded “oh no one has come up yet? Let me call them again”. Seriously? Rushed into work late.
Day 3: partner gets in we don’t spend time in the hotel. Late at night we come in and want to purchase water. The late night agent refused to attend us for 5min because he had to finish something and had a rude tone about it.
Day 4: I’ve been in the room for three nights and request a touch up and change of towels. I asked my partner 3x to leave and come back to the hotel, to each time, never getting it serviced. It was late into someone’s shift and I said fine we can get it serviced tomorrow. “BUT PLEASE LET US BE THE FIRST we don’t have any soap and we threw our towels on the floor thinking it will be switched that day” I said.
Day 5: we are expecting a clean and request at the front desk to get someone in soon. 3pm, No one came. At this point we could not wait for extra towels and request three sets be brought up because we had a rehearsal dinner to attend in 45min. We shower with shampoo (nbd right?). Was brought three towels for showering, not the sets we requested. And never used them because it took the front desk 30min to bring them up. Ended up using one of the dirty ones on the floor. Oh and no one shows up after we leave to service the room.
Day 6: wedding day. I need a steamer and requested one be brought up urgently as I need to steam my clothes. Waited an hour and no one came. Called and the attendant just said “oh no one has come up yet? I’ll call again”. Seriously? (Seeing the pattern here?) Why didn’t you check 30min ago?! Left without steaming my shirt and partner comes with, in hopes that the room is serviced while we’re gone. He drops me off at the wedding to help prepare and returns to the hotel three hours later at 4pm. Ofcourse, the room isn’t serviced and he needs to shower and get ready. There is no body wash or lotion in the hotel. At this point he is annoyed and angry as he doesn’t have the necessary things to get ready and the hotel is neglecting our requests. On top of that, the shower is clogged.
Day 7: hotel room is serviced. Finally. And a “deep clean”. But where is the body wash? Nowhere to be found. I call up the front desk to see if we can get some body wash and I get a “I can’t come up to bring it to you as I am the only one in the front”. At this point I don’t bother complaining, as I’ve given up on this service.
Day 8: get a bang at the door at 830am. It’s someone from downstairs insisting that he needs to come in and add the body wash. I’m sleeping and my partner lets him in. No consideration of the guest at all.
This has been the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. The incompetence, bad manors, chaos, and terrible customer service at this hotel is shocking for the amount someone has to pay to go there. On top of that, no one called to remediate the experience and make sure we were ok. They didn’t care. I thought I was staying at a Marriott not a motel 6.
Oh and the shower drain stayed clogged. We could literally swim in...
