Not only is this one of the cutest, most stylish bars in all of Seattle, not only is it wonderfully queer-friendly, not only is it in a magically lovely hidden corner of Seattle that makes its very existence shine into the misty night like a beacon of thoughtfully lit coziness - the staff are simply the BEST.
I've been in a few times a year with friends who live nearby, but last night was the first time I was there with a date. Our server was super nice in helping us navigate the cocktails/mocktails for good options, and served us right away despite it being busy. My date and I were having a wonderful time connecting, and had no idea the bar closed at 10 - I only realized it later when I checked at home. We left a little after 10:30, and they never once interrupted us, not even to announce their closing time. Now that I do know, I feel a bit guilty about making them stay late, but so appreciate their graciousness in letting us have our moment - to the folks working that night, thank you so much!
The drinks were also fantastic - I had a "naygroni," a mocktail based on Wilderton's bittersweet apertivo, which was remarkably good. I've only recently been moving from cocktails to mocktails and have generally been disappointed, but this was quite the exception, and something I'm going to try making at home as well as on many return trips to what is fast becoming my favorite...

I came to The Velvet Elk expecting your average neighborhood bar—but what I found was a portal.
The moment I walked in, I was visually embraced by an interior that felt like a soulful nod to disco meets velvet lounge—a curated clash of funky nostalgia and chic relaxation. The upstairs seating? A whole mood. I was transported into a calming cocoon of psychedelic groove and retro lighting that, somehow, made me breathe a little deeper.
The cocktail I ordered surprised me with its vibrant, botanical essence—it was layered, smooth, and entirely unexpected. A keeper.
As someone loyal to an Old Fashioned, I was impressed by theirs. Ask for it with a little less sugar, and you’ll discover a classic with a confident twist.
The food menu is more snack-forward than meal-driven, so don’t come starving. But what they offer doesn’t work for mr.
Nearest Hidden Gem: Just a few minutes away, the Seattle Japanese Garden offers a serene contrast—an immersive walk through nature’s stillness. And if your spirit craves even deeper alignment after that, follow the whispers of your nervous system and explore what’s quietly unfolding at Brain and Body Recess, where rest isn’t a luxury—it’s...
Read moreFriends and I went for a Halloween Event. First, Venue--super eclectic décor which ranged from space paintings, retro wallpaper, velvet cushy pillows & chairs with colored lights. The atmosphere is worth going for. Menu-busy Halloween party, corn dogs slapped + pringles were nostalgic. There is a pizza place next door & you can bring food in (recommend if you have food limitations or want big food meal with your beverages, I think normally they do have a small bites menu). Drinks were curated special for that night, but that was one of the strong points—seeing crafted cocktails & the drinkware glasses were excellent choice to highlight each cocktail. Looking forward as each season changes & how the cocktails change. They sell house bitters—I ended up getting their Velvet Elk blend & Vanilla—fun little thing to pick up for the home kitchen bartender. My friends enjoyed their experience, everyone there was friendly staff & it seemed it drew in other individuals who were friendly/respectful. Would recommend & love...
