I gave this place five stars just a few months ago. My family ate here about once a week...it was that good and that reasonable—we could hardly say enough great things about it. We highly recommended it to our Airbnb guests...especially when they had kids. I could get low fat fish stew, my teens could get their favorite fries in town, cooked perfectly and delicious, and my wife had her favorite Panko crusted chicken sandwich. Their blue cheese dressing on their house salad was outstanding, complimenting the cranberries and almonds. The atmosohere was unpretentious and pleasant and the staff were friendly and enjoyable. Best of all, all the food was consistent, fresh, flavorful and healthy. Well...you can kiss all this magic goodbye. Apparently the owner wanted to turn the place into a more “upscale dining experience,” so he got rid of dressing choices—you can only have Balsamic, which doesnt really go great with the cranberries—got rid of most of our favorite, family friendly dishes, and instead opted for the cookie cutter menu EVERY OTHER SEBASTOPOL ESTABLISHEMENT SERVES HERE TO TOURISTS: high fat steaks, Mac and cheese gratin, and the ever so tready and over-rated brusssel sprouts, (that only one in six people actually enjoy but we are all being force fed becasue some chef said, see—I can make these nasty things taste good!)—and two tiny mini sliders that are more bread that’s anything else. Oh! And the fries are truly just...well, blah. He gave up the frozen for the hand cut...the kind that leave the tiny pieces burnt, and the thick pieces a bit undercooked but saturated with oil. It’s like eating greasy burnt sticks of nothing—they have no flavor of their own. The waitress told me they are “healthier,” but according to my tastebuds and my calorie tracker, they are a third more calories then the frozen fries—10 equaled 1/3rd of my calories for the day. My family really misses the ones he used to have. But now they come in a wooden box and he is serving half as many...so maybe that is supposed to make us happy. So no more fries at our table, and no more salad. I looked around at the people being served and listened to their comments. No one was happy. And this is not surprising: 80% of the tables had white hair. Me too. White haired people do not eat this stuff. It is too high in fat and cholesterol. We count points! I just really don’t get it...this place was PACKED every day of the week...the owner had a true hit on his hands...the town loved the place and was showing our support with our routine patronage. For those of us who live year around in this overpriced tourist town, it was wonderful to have somewhere...just one place... that was designed for us and our families
instead of our weekend guests. Now, it would seem, that is gone. I can only hope it is not gone forever. I beg you... My family begs you...all our friends and neighbors beg you...PLEASE bring back the good ol’ Fandees. If you need a vanity project, then open a second, different place...I’m sure the tourists...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to revisit Fandees, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. As foodie I value not only the quality of the cuisine but also the overall dining experience, which includes the service. Sadly, I must say that the service was atrocious on this occasion.
My dining companion and I were simply looking to enjoy a drink and a meal, but we were left waiting for what felt like an eternity before anyone came to take our order. When our food finally arrived, we were presented with fish and chips that left much to be desired. While the fries were enjoyable, the fish itself was either overcooked or had been left sitting for too long, as it was disappointingly mushy.
To make matters worse, our server was nowhere to be found after delivering our meals. We were never checked on to see how our food was or if we needed drink refills, and we found ourselves waiting even longer to pay our bill. Eventually, we had to track down the server and make our own way to the front to pay. The lack of attention and service was disheartening, especially given that this was my second visit to the establishment, and the same poor experience was repeated.
As a foodie it is rare for me to become so frustrated with a restaurant, but the lack of attention to detail and service at Fandees needs to be addressed by management. It is my hope that they will take the necessary steps to improve the quality of their service and ensure that all diners have a positive experience when visiting their...
Read moreOk, so I know COVID has done a number on local businesses, I do take that into consideration, however I have had better experiences elswhere that kept up their food standards and service standards during covid. My husband and I used to like eating at this restaurant coming every so many weeks for a good year. We always we're treated well and the food was good.
Today, the service was sub par. I asked a seperate waitress for crayons for my child, they said they were out. Ok...a pen will do. (Our waitress gave us some later). The menu has changed for the worse...they took away the best items. Mimosa? We dont have orange juice. They are going to make more soon. Fine... I get a different one. The surprise was that they did give us OJ mimosa and after the waitress messed up that my husband didn't want a mimosa, she took it off the bill and gave him the non alcoholic drink. She was nice. I sense a bit overwhelmed. We waited an hour for our food. Fries and chicken tenders. Chilequiles and bbq wings and french onion soup. We were so disappointed. We tipped like 24% (I rounded up to nearear 5th to make it even).
We might try agaib a year or two from now to see if anything changed, but I can honestly say that we won't be coming back for a long time, not recommending friends and family...
