A Culinary Journey at the Redwood - Nestled in the heart of Sebastopol, the Redwood stands out as a beacon for those seeking an unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance is welcoming and approachable, setting the stage for a menu par excellence.
The menu, a masterpiece in itself, reflects the caliber of two chefs who possess an unparalleled comprehension of ingredients. Their craftsmanship in the composition of dishes and flavor profiles celebrates simplicity while inviting exploration.
We began with the Route 1 Pita and Dips, a perfect shared starter. The dips highlighted an artful combination of flavors and textures which perfectly showcased the locally-made pita. Next, the Squash & Stracciatella - this dish, a true celebration of seasonal ingredients, demonstrating the chef's ability to elevate simplicity into something extraordinary. The freshness of the squash paired with the creamy Stracciatella created a delightful balance that left us craving for more.
Our main course featured the Lamb Shank. Within the first bite, this dish made me wonder, “What on earth did humans do to deserve this incredible lamb?” The tenderness of the lamb is indescribable; I won't even try. The bright, herbaceous chermoula and warm spices create a beautiful flavor profile to showcase the star - that dang lamb.
The finale of our meal was the Dark Chocolate Crémeux - rich and velvety chocolate, expertly balanced with complementary elements of burnt white chocolate, brûléed banana, and fig leaf whipped cream. A sublime conclusion to our meal.
The service was impeccable, with attentive staff adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening. Guests appeared to truly enjoy talking with the staff and owner who offer thoughtful suggestions and humble explanations.
The Redwood provides an approachable culinary exploration through a thoughtfully crafted menu and heartfelt hospitality.

Read moreLittle Sebastopol scores a big city restaurant with the opening of The Redwood! Owners Geneva and Ryan have lovingly created a menu of small plates and a wine list of beautifully chosen organic wines free of additives. Especially notable is the subtle palate and delicate touch of Chef Geneva, who layers flavors assuredly, yielding complex dishes but never weighed down by a heavy hand. Her lamb shank, for example, is luscious and tender complemented by fresh herbs that brighten the meat. Clearly, her meat, like everything on the menu, is well sourced. We were a party of 4 and enjoyed the chickpeas, bread, and olives; the duck liver mousse and pink celery salad; the carrots, broccolini, and lamb shank, and two desserts! We loved our bottle of skin contact "orange" wine. What was also as lovely as the food were the happy voices of diners, both millennials and the middle-aged, clearly pleased with their dinners and the feeling of being taken care of so well. Our waiter possessed a perfect balance of attentiveness and friendliness. It was early days the night of our visit, and the owners are discovering just how in demand they are. It won't be long before--if not already--the Redwood becomes a destination for travelers wishing an...
Read moreWell, the wine selection was wonderful. The pours were very good. The atmosphere was welcoming. Very disappointed in the food menu. $25 for a "cheese plate" was throughly disappointing. Please note, there were 4 of us. We ordered our wine, and decided on the cheese plate thinking it would be enough to share since it was $25. When it was served, we were highly disappointed. Our cheese plate was just dropped off with no explanation. We all looked at each other wondering if this was the appetizer version. What was plated was a hint of taste of 3 varietal cheeses, 4 wafer thin slices of apples, a splash of honey, a dollop of apricot something and 2 1/2 slices of bread. Okay, there were 4 of us. We had to ask if what they served us was the $15 plating. Oh, no, one of the multiple servers said it was the $25 serving. Grant it, the quality was good, but not for an entree price. Too expensive...
