I like to try a place out 2 or 3 times before leaving a review. I've been here 2 times. Both times were seriously disappointing even though the food is very good.
The first time I went, I was with a friend who had brought her "emotional support dog". One lady took us to a table and seated us and brought water. My friend went to the restroom and left her little dog with me. While she was gone, a waitress came to check on our table. She got very hostile about the dog being in there. I said ok and asked her to talk to the dogs owner when she got out of the bathroom. It seemed to make her madder still, and she yelled at me saying, "No! You tell her. " She was so forcefully rude that when I looked around, all the other people in the diner were staring at her, kinda shocked. We were clearly not welcomed there, so we left.
The next time, i went for lunch with my hubby. I made sure we got a different waitress. We got the fabulous Ann. Great service, yummy food, sweet and friendly waitress. At the end, she asked if we wanted dessert. We had never tried the famous carrot cake, so we ordered a piece for each of us. The cake was packaged and bagged, waiting for us at the counter. We checked out, and our bill was $75...before the tip. Don't know why my hubby didn't question the amount. When we got home and opened the two cake containers we were shocked, and giggling. The cakes were enormous. One could have fed 4 people. And we had 2, lol. So we figured maybe there was a misunderstanding with the size of cake ordered, thus the high price, maybe. Then we opened the cake containers. The cakes were hard as Rock. We could not get a fork through them. Sheesh! At that point I had enough. We tossed out the "famous" cakes and decided not to eat there again.
I wish my review could be better because I'm big on supporting local businesses. But I'm just soured on this place. The food is really...
Read moreA year ago I gave this place 5 stars and that original review can be seen below. I'm currently updating my rating due to recent visits. Two weeks ago during our annual elk hunting trip we were all looking forward to eating there again. For a few years now we made it a tradition to eat there while visiting and everything was always great. This visit however things were different. We went in and were greeted by a friendly person and we sat down. The service from then on was poor, the quality of the meal was not as we remembered it to be and the friendly environment we always felt in the past seemed to be gone. We thought maybe this was just a fluke thing and decided to try it again last weekend. Once again our experience was the same as two weeks ago. Our server took our drink order then forgot about us. There were two other parties that had come and were seated after us but both parties had there food served before our orders were taken. We had to flag down the waitress and tell her we want to order otherwise who knows how long it would have been before she returned to take it. This time the food was better than the last visit but the service was still lacking. Another let down I want to mention is they stopped serving sweet potato fries which was a bummer. Wish they still offered them. I'm not sure what has changed within the restaurant to have caused the service to change so noticeably but I hope it gets worked out before our next visit. Will update then as well.
It's very rare for me to complain when doing reviews so I hope the business sees this as constructive criticism and works it out.
Looking for good home cooking, large portions and great service. This is the place! Found this gem on the way to Gallup, NM. Stopped in for late lunch, early dinner. Located off I40 on the iconic highway 66 in Steigman, Arizona. Plenty of cars in the parking lot. Inside was decorated with highway 66 stuff and pictures of the owner with friends and family. A hint of German flair made it feel like gathering with family. A nice outdoor patio area. The cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a restaurant. Meun is simple with a good variety to choose from. Servings are large and shareable. Many items are made in house, fresh and with love. We shared the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich with fresh cut fries and a side salad. Sandwich came on hearty sourdough, turkey looked carved off the bird and thick, bacon was hearty too. Fries were fresh cut, delicious and hot. The house salad was decent size and filling. Prices are average and reasonable for what you get. They also feature homemade desserts. All of which looked delicious and fresh. Carrot cake is the most requested. As we were leaving the table next to us ordered a Philly steak sandwich and a Chili size, both looked delicious. This place was so good we stopped on our way home for breakfast. We ordered the chorizo and eggs and the eggs rancheros. Both came with choice of potatoes, we chose "those potatoes" over hash browns. "Those potatoes " are cubed potatoes with onions and bell peppers. A tortilla on the side and fresh, homemade salsa (which was delicious). The chorizo was flavorful with a kick. The eggs rancheros was served on a corn tortilla, homemade pork chili Verde nicely seasoned and tender, topped with eggs and served with "those potatoes" and refried beans. Delicious! Highly recommend this place. Save room for dessert or...
