Some weeks back, we had the pleasure of eating at Robin's Nest. During our trip, I asked an antique store owner for his recommendation of a place to eat in Selma. We wanted to eat somewhere that was local and not mainstream. Robin's Nest was immediately suggested. Directions to the restaurant were pretty easy We walked in and the place was quite busy. That was our first indication that the food must be good. Unlike missy restaurants, you pay first and then sit. The restaurant is buffet style. Shortly after we found a table we were greeted by the owner Darrell. I wasted no time in telling him we were newcomers who didn't know the ins and outs and asked for his suggestions on what's best. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to him. He was friendly and courteous. We were up in no time grabbing our food. There is quite the variety to go from. Whether you like beef, chicken, seafood, fish or vegetables there is a wide assortment of that and more. This place is that delicious 'warm with care Mama home style cooking.' Everything that I tasted was delicious. I went back for seconds. When asking the wife what she thought, I got the nod of contention with no words because she was too busy eating. We were both stuffed but kept just enough room for dessert. The desert options much like the food options. are in abundance. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone who is around the area. If you're not, it's worth the trip and the cost is absolutely affordable. We plan on going back to Selma and eating for a second time at Robin's Nest.

Dear Mr & Mrs Robbins Today my wife, daughter and I stopped by for lunch. We had someone in Raliegh who insisted we had to come by and see the place for ourselves. My daughter is five and loves to try new things but she has the basics she loves. The selection was great. There were chicken nuggets and the must have for any kid Mac & cheese that was delicious. We all tried the flat bread as a family first. It was delicious too. I then went with the thanksgiving spread, sliced turkey and gravy, dressing with mash potatoes, corn and green beans. My wife went went a little more southern with the ham hock, greens and fried fatback. Then we jumped right back in for round two. Now that I am not younger man and treat buffet style as a all I can eat challenge I mostly get a little something and be on my way. But with how good everything was I almost had to get my wife to pull the car round I was so full. The dessert were amazing and the staff was on top of everything and friendly. All three of us ate for under $40 buck and the drinks are include with the meal. You have a great business model and look forward to coming back and shaking your hand in person one day. Thanks gain for the southern hospitality. Thanks from the Faries family and soon to be a weekend regular.

We were so happy that a local told us about this spot while shopping antiques. He said we wouldn't be impressed with the decor or even the exterior. He said it was nith8jg ti speak of, but the food would speak for itself. It did! The BBQ did not disappoint. It was by far the best part of my plate. The hush puppies are delicious. Sweet and hearty. I think the cook stuck their foot in the greens and cabbage. If you're not familiar, that's very much a compliment. They were seasoned perfectly. The food could have been hotter. But honestly, no one should expect piping hot food at a buffet. And it was replenished often enough that it never got cold. The potato salad was a little sweet, but the overall flavor and texture were how we like out southern potato salad to be. I could describe the coleslaw the same. It was minced and flavorful, not too much liquid but perfect amount of wet. The yams and mac n cheese were good but not what I came for nor what i filled up on. It was a delicious meal. 16.50 per person + beverage + tax & tip. If we're ever in town or passing through again, we'll sure stop by.

5-Star rating is strictly for the food this time.

I had a very unpleasant experience. I arrived approximately 7:20 pm on a Saturday. I noticed the parking area was unusually half full. I attributed that to virus fears. Got seated pretty quickly. Food was absolutely Southern home style good!

However, just before 8 pm the staff announced that we needed to get whatever we needed from the buffet and dessert because they were shutting it down. They tried to be very polite but there is no way to be polite when being rushed while dining. I picked a dessert and by the time I got back to my table I was the only customer. I absolutely felt like I was imposing!

7 pm Daylight Saving Time on a beautiful mild Saturday evening is prime dinner time. Why in the world would someone risk losing customers who want to relax and dine in a family friendly atmosphere. Is closing at 9 that inconvenient? No one wants to feel like they’re keeping everyone from going home!!

I’m reminded of Bill Ellis Barbecue in Wilson. When Bill was still active their buffet stayed online until the customers were finished. And the customers were not asked if they were finished. Exactly the opposite on one occasion—we were asked if there was anything not online that we needed. Sadly that all changed when Bill was no longer managing.

Bottom line is if you come up short on your customers you will come up short of customers. I dread the day Robbins Nest shuts down. I personally don’t know of any better place to enjoy Southern cooking. But I will definitely try out any if someone thinks they know any as...

I can honestly tell you that most southern buffet veggies come from a can ! It’s all in how u season them ! I keep hearing reviews about canned veggies, and I shake my head ! If u season a vegetable correctly , it doesn’t matter where it came from . Restaurant owners are not capable of running a farm and a restaurant, for all the people that think it should come from a garden ! If u want it that fresh , u should stay home and cook ! I can personally speak for myself when I say that one person may love this or that while another person hates it . For example, I love HOT BANANA PUDDING(won’t eat it cold) , I know some people who will only eat it COLD ! The Robbins Nest tries to make all happy , but make no mistake, when people walk in the door unhappy, most of the time they will leave unhappy!!! It has nothing to do with the food , it has to do with their attitude most generally! I’ve seen and read good and bad reviews. Ty for the good reviews, those who didn’t like it I hope will try it again , if not , your loss ! I work there and can honestly say we try to make all happy ! I have found out that this is IMPOSSIBLE( making everyone happy), therefore we will continue to do our best to make sure your visit was a good one !!! Thank to all our regulars , (quite a few) . We r not fancy , but we r true SOUTHERNERS! Therefore , I will always give us a 5 star rating ! We aren’t perfect by any means , but we certainly try hard ! I thank all our friends, families, and coworkers for all they’ve done for this restaurant! You are the reason we r still here...
